Does this sound like a inner primary bearing problem?
I left out on my Street Bob this evening and when I letout on the clutch and at low throttle position in say 1st through 3rd gear I heard a sort of noise sounded like something grinding (rocks rumbling around) ever so slightly. I don't think that it is the clutch because If I get on the throttle a little the bike doesn't rev higher than normal or feel as though it is slipping. Once the RPM"S get a little higher the noise dissapeared. When I turned the ignition off on my bike I heard it again as the engine came to rest (Sort of a rubbing noise, metal to metal). I started it up once more and went to take off and heard it again and when I stopped the bike again I heard the same noises. I rode no further than A mile just to try to asses the problem.
I have a 2006 Dyna Street Bob with about 60 days left on the warranty. I have heard that the inner primary bearingwas being changed by the dealer at no chargeon the6 Speed tranny as aninitial care program buthas ended. (I heard that this was being done because the bearing failed on a lot of bikes. I was going to take my bike in at 15,000 moles but was told that it was no longer needed. I now have 18,000 miles on it and just a couple of months left on the warrany.[:@] I feel a bit SNAKE BIT!
If you have had problems with your inner primary bearing does this sound like my problem? Thanks!
RE: Does this sound like a inner primary bearing problem?
That sh*t better not happen to my bike warranty or no warranty they'd hear from me. My dealer told me the bearing thing was an isolated incidence. My brother used to say if you hear noises just keep on riding and the part thatstarts smokingwill be the part that made the noise.
I would take it to the dealer ASAP. I hope my Dyna don't turn out to be a piece of sh*t. So far I love it.

ORIGINAL: txtec
sounds more like the alternater stator coming apart like my 06 dyna did. lots of 06s had this problem
I think txtec is right about the stator.
The primary bearing will make the grinding sound in nuetral, with the clutch released.
I would take it in and get documentation, before your warrenty goes out. Good luck.

Might be the compensator NUT coming loose
I have a friend with an o3 duece,he had the exact same noise
you're talking about...took his primary cover off...and the nut was only on because the
primary cover was keeping it from falling off the shaft....he run it back down with some lock tight
and all is well so far....this was last summer
