I had the same problem a few months ago - it seemed that my connection to the coil wire was loose. I was on a trip and about 100 miles from home. After jiggling it on and off for about 30 miles I finally found a car dealership that was still open. The loaned me a pair of pliers which I used to crimp it. After getting home I took it to the HD place and had the lead replaced. By the way, it would run okay for a little while then really rough like the timing was off, but the first time it stopped it had been running great. At first I thought it was gas but that didn't seem to be the problem.
I've had the exact same thing happen twice. First time I was in 5th and just left off the throttle to slow down for my driveway and for some reason when I went to goose ita little to make the turn into the drive it just died. Second time I was leaving a stop sign, making a left hand turn and it coughed and died just as I was midway into the corner. $hit happens fast when the bike is leaned over in first gear taking a corner and the motor just coughs out.
It was a couple months in between those two episodes so its kinda hard to trace down. First time I thought it was just a fluke but now after the second it kinda keeps me on my toes.
You went thru a short magnetic force field created by aliens just to mess with us. I'd bet my life on it.
If not aliens then I hope it's nothing more'n a quick fix like something loose.
OK I pulled the seat and the battery cover and the battery leads were tight and I couldn't find anything loose under the seat.Where exactly is the ground strap? I'll pull the other cover off tomarrow and take a look.It is possible that I accidentally hit the kill switch, I had just passed somebody before this happened maybe I hit the kill switch instead of the right signal.Oh well, it ran fine on the way home I'll take another look at it tomarrow.
same thing happened to me ..................I think it was a kill switch fubar

Ed,
You didn't hit the KILL switch by accident in the dark, did you??
Hopefully the weren't able to lean it over far enough to activate the "tilt" button.
I would also check all the grounds, may have been a "friendly" warning.
I had the battery cable come loose once and also don't forget about the key fob in your pocket. The key fob will kill the bike if the button is pressed while your riding. Ask me how I know that one lmao.
Anyone get a conclusion to this. My '06 bob did it to me this morining on my way to work too. This was the second time and I know I didn't hit the kill switch this time (that's what I figured happened the first). Bike just dies, I still have all power and speedo goes to 0.
