RE: Configuring the Dyna for short 2up trips... Yuck!
I am feeling ya Thump!
All that 2 up gear really can rub ya against the grain! When I got my ride THE first thing that went was that BIG 2 up seat. It's just sitting here If you want I can get it to ya cheap. I think its a Mustang.......but don't hold me to that. I will take a look for ya if ya want!

I'd love to find a decent used 2up seat that's more comfortable than our stock seat, but ithas to be from a '91-'95 Dyna to even work on my bike. [:@]

Thump, just an idea make it so you can at least switch the seat you like with the seat she likes easily. And see if you can find a sissy bar upright that will change out with the padded one that just looks cool when riding solo but isn't necessarily functional. You know - the ones that go up and join at a point and maybe even curves back a bit?
If my wife had only ridden on mine, she wouldn't have known the difference. She still would have bitched but she would have just though it was nature of the beast. But my arsehole bro-in-law (her brother) took her for a ride on the back of his Heritage right after she climbed off the back of mine and all I heard was how I bought a P.O.S. bike that she can't ride comfortable on and why didn't I get something like he had. Hold on there - I bought this bike for me and when I bought it, you were teetering on divorce because of itand swore you'd never go within 10 feet of it! Women! She still bitches because the sissy bar pad vibrates against her back and gives here the "bumble bees" she calls it. But that feaux-leather sofa cushion HD calls a seat, she likes. I bet if the seat were vibrating and the sissy bar pad wasn't, she wouldn't be complaining as much. Second thought, yes she would.

I feel the same way! I ended up splurging and bought the Corbin Rumble Seat. No brackets to worry about and I can change from my solo in about 5 minutes...Solves the passenger/sissy bar problem, anyway.
RE: Configuring the Dyna for short 2up trips... Yuck!
My take on this particular issue is this...
I love the way my Wide glide looks naked, makes me feel very Mickey Rourke-ish,but I know that if the luggage is on, that means that I'm leaving my troubles behind and hitting the open road for an extended period of time, making me feel very Wild Hog-ish!Man these bikes are versatile!
RE: Configuring the Dyna for short 2up trips... Yuck!
Man I hear ya. I can't stand my bike in the 2 up config. I didbuy all detachable stuff up front and rode the wife around for 6 months until she got her own 1200C. Now I'm used to the bags and windshield (which I cut down 3") with the windshield bag. It's niceto have a place to stow stuff. I actually think it looks pretty cool with the backrest/rack removed. After I wash it, I have to ride it naked (the bike) for a while.I laugh because my daughter would rather ride without the backrest too because she bitches it makes her back buzzy!! TK

That's actually why I'm going with this one.
It's not exactly like you describe, but I'm thinking I could remove the pad on the sissy bar to just expose the chrome bar. That may look okay with a solo seat? Possibly... I think that pad kind or clamps on there. I don't think there are screw holes in the bar itself.
And I hear ya on everything you said. I'm about to experience the same regular bitching myself. lol... She's already bitched about the small sissy bar vibrating at lower speeds. I did tell her to just deal with it. That's how it goes.
