That's gotta suck Thump (Not being able to find the detach. plates and being stuck at one base the whole time). I was in 9 years. Stationed at George AFB in Ca, Camp Darby, Italy(with the Army), Loring AFB, Me, Camp Red Cloud, Korea (Again with the Army) and ended up at Vandenberg AFB in Ca. I was in Civil Engineering, Electric Power Production. Had the time of my life overseas. Went TDY a lot, Germany, Austria, Greece, Spain, Japan, Phillipines.
To top it off,my wifeand I alsogrew up inSouthern Illinois. LOL! Joined the AF to see the world and was stationed for all 6 years only 1 1/2 hours away from where we grew up. It's funny now, but it wasn't at the time. I called my new wife from basic training to tell her we were going to be stationed at Scott and she immediately started crying. ha ha... Believe me, we both laugh about it now. I got out in 1999.

I was looking at two-up bikes like the wide glide and the softail custom when I bought my street bob. The g/f told me she didn't want to ride so just buy the single seater if that was what I really wanted.......
...less than a month later I'm buying the seat, sissy bar, pegs, peg mounts, matching helmets.........women[:@]

Oh yeah, and the luggage rack requires me to go back to the straight up license plate bracket. I don't like that at all. The back of my bike is going to look like an ugly chick with braces.
You can't use the H-D sissy bar luggage rack? the sissy you have choosen does look cool but have you not thought to maybe go with the H-D low sissy bar and rack that goes with it . For reference, I have the low sissy bar on my bike (also have a rack but not attached). I think the low is tall enough to allow you many options for luggage, from what I have read, researching some of those rear luggage pieces. Now, 4 bolts and in no time you can re-install your current sissy bar you have ....also obviously you will not muck the rear by getting a rack that requires an upright plate like the one you must be looking at.

The sissy bar needs to have an inside width of 6 11/16" and not all are that size. Not saying HD doesn't make one, though. But yeah, I planned to go with the sissy bar I posted above, because I like the looks of it the most. I think it just looks good. I just bought this rack, but I'm not sure how it will look with that sissy bar I want. Guess I'll find out.

Chris, I just went through the same pains, but as much as I don't like the detachable backrest on my bike, it does make the Mrs. enjoy the ride that much more. A bonus for me I guess.
