iI made the OL take the MSF course and now shes on her 2nd bike. It was the only way I got my solo setup back.
My OL doesn't pay enough attention when drivinga car. I think she'd be dangerous on a bike. [8D]

You Dyna guys may not understand this, but I like my bagger stripped down too.
I have a detachable backrest with luggage rack for trips as well as a detachable rider backrest on my C&C Sport Tour seat.

But for around town or even rides after I get to my destination, THAT CRAP COMES OFF. I went to Daytona last month. When I got to the hotel I found myself checking in not only with tour bag but also with backrests in hand. They were stashed in the motel room until I checked out and left town.

Same for me. I travel with windshield, sissy bar, pelion seat, luggage rack and when I check in the motel they find their spot on the shelf in the closet.

Thump, that sucks. What I can't figure out is the people who go in and then put in for the nearest base up the road and "get it". I don't get that! My brother in law was from upstate NY and got Pease NH, about 1 hr from me and he never left the base. Duh? I was in from 78- 87. I met my wife of 25 years (next month), in the AF in Italy. She was in Supply. Did you put in for overseas? Usually they're the first to go. We both went in to travel and did just that. How far is Scott from Chanute? All my ammo buds went there.

On the topic note, Jake, that bike is awesome. Did you do all that work? Thump, have you lookded at modifying a set of detachable sideplates? Maybe you mentioned that already.

Just make sure your priorities are straight. My personally are:

1. Performance
2. Comfort
3. Looks

Remember, happy wife = happy life. I have a big-assed ugly seat, floor boards, and back rest. The wife loves racking up the miles with me, and doesn't mind the occasional wheely. The front of my bike looks totally sick, the back totally cushy... I always get sh*t for that but I'm OK with that and for my wife's first year on back last year I managed to get 6000 miles in for the year mostly 2-up.

My brother-in-law retired from the AF. He tried to get stationed at Scott AFB his entire career and never made it. I put down mostly overseas locations on my "dream sheet" in basic and didn't even list Scott. Sure enough, I ended up at Scott. lol... Crazy. I don't care now. It all worked out. It was nice to be here when I got out, so I could start job hunting. So yeah, it worked out great in the end.

Chanute is a couple of hours North, I believe. I believe that's a reserve base or something now or maybe closed altogether? Not real sure. Actually, I heard a few years back that they were having some tech schools at Chanute now? I don't know.

Thanks, that makes me feel better (misery loves company.)

When/If I get a newer bike, I'm getting all of that crap right up front, so I never run into this situation again!!!

that is what I did , my wife has been through 3 motorcycles , she will ride for a while and then sell it and say Im just gonna ride on the back of yours so I go gather up the stuff for two up and it last about 6 months and then she buys another . this time when I traded I just bit the bullet and got all detachable stuff , back rest/luggage rack and windshield , I have a t-bag and a smaller roll type bag because I dont car for saddle bags. as suprizing as it sounds she actually likes the stock seat so at least my bike wont look like a hump back whale with one of those big two up seats

I bought a detachable sissy bar for my Sportster and then never took it off. That was a nice waste of an extra $100+. Went with the permanent oneon the Dyna for that reason. You have a great looking ride, and a sissy bar won't detract from that at all. Compromises on something as personal as a bike always suck, but if she is happy then at least you will get to ride more

I just went to a local HD dealer over lunch. We pulled an HD sissy bar they had from the back that said it would fit '91-'01 Dynas. The width of the base of the bar was correct (6 11/16"), but the bar came with bolts and nuts for mounting to the sideplates. My bar has bolts that screw into threaded holes on the sideplates. There are no bolts holding this together on my bike. Also, the screws on the new sissy bar appears to be bigger in diameters, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

So yeah, it looks like the HD sissy bar was the right width, but I doubt it would fit with those bolts. The only real way to tell is to drive it into the dealer, which I'm not able to do right away.

Also, that round sissy bar I posted above looks better anyway to me. That specifically says it's for '91-'95 Dynas. I bet it has smaller holes that are meant to be used with the threaded holes on the stock sideplates and that's why it says it's for those certain years.
