Default Reflections

Well, I finally did it.... I removed the reflectors from my front forks. It only took me an hour to remove them with a heat gun, fishing line, WD-40 and a rag. I did it while I was doing an oil change on it. I got bored waiting for the hot oil to drain and the filter to then cool off a bit so I decided to go for it. To me it makes the forks look a little bigger and a lot betterwith the Schwin reflector in the trash can. Now I just need to work up the guts to remove the ones on the rear fender. I am a little hesitant since they are stuck to a painted surface. Maybe I'll do it when I change the primary and trans fluids...

I also ordered a new seat (A Sundowner from www.Surdyke.com@ 20% off and a TS3200 tailbag from www.motorcycle-superstore.com with free shipping.) I am almost ready for the 1800+ mile cruise to Milwaukee from Phoenix this August. I brought up the road trip to an old USAF buddy of mine and now we have the vacation time off and are ready to roll. Me on my FXDWG and him on his Triumph. It may not be an HD but at least the owners manual is in English!

The rear ones were easier for me than the fork reflectors. Don't sweat it, just get some Goo Gone (NOT Goof-Off) and if should be a walk in the park.

The rear ones are just as easy. I removed mine twice, the first time to relocate them to the struts when I installed a rigid sissy bar and then the second time for good. I used fishing line and goo-gone - had no need for heat or WD-40. I used the same method to remove my tank badges - no harm done to the paint.

I never use anything but heat to remove the reflectors. Hair dryer on high, heat up for 10 mins or so and pull off with fingers. Usually leaves very little residue on rear fender and none on sliders. Any residue left on rear fender (or sliders) I remove with "OOPS" Multi-Purpose Remover. Way way faster than Goo Gone. The tank badges were a big PITA for me though.
