Default Kuryakyn Forward Controls

I've been trying to decide on which forwards to get, HD or Kuryakyn and have a couple questions about the Kuryakyns.

Does the rightsidefootpeg/pedal not stick out far enough to comfortably clear the air cleaner assembly? I read a postwheresomeone was complaining that they didn't have enough pegroom.

Can someone post good pics of how the extra shift lever is fastened to the engine case and how the chrome cap looks covering the spline? Curious to see how this looks.

I got rid of all my closeup pix - by accident. I have a stage 1 a/c that probably sticks out a little further than the stock a/c and I still have no problems comfortably getting my feet on the right side peg. Actually if you look at how the HD and Kury's mount to the frame, if one has a clearance issue, the other should as well, but they don't- at least not for me.

I'm going to try to add some hi-res pix of the left and right side of my bike. If successful, you should be able to view the fullsize versions and see what you are after. They may be too large to upload though.

It let me upload one side above where you can see the primary spline cover. Here is the brake side. Probably not the right angle for you to tell much though.

If you have any questions, let me know.

I can't even see the forward shift arm. Does it tuck down into the slot and out of sight? Any problems pounding the shift lever onto the spline?

You shouldn't have to "pound" the shift lever onto the spline. It should slip on fairly easily if it's not damaged. There is a retaining screw that goes into a slot in the spline shaft. You can adjust the angle of the shift lever by removing it and replacing it at the desired angle.

Thanks Priest but several posts report a problem with the Kuryakyn kit and having trouble mounting the shift lever on newer Dynas. You're right though, you shouldn't have to pound but some have had to.

How did your Kuryakyn kit fit together Priest; or don't you have one?

You've been a member here longer than me but I've only seen one post where a guy had that problem and he couldn't even get a Kuryakyn shifter to fit it so he obviously had a bum spline somehow. I usually read every Kuryakyn forward control thread I see and I'm on here a lot. If you did a search to find this, are you sure you aren't seeing multiple posts from the same thread?

I liked the Kuryakyn forwards, easy to install, but yeah, I forgot about the slight modification needed on the shifter.

I really don't believe in pounding stuff on anything, butI did have to get the dremmel out and grind a small flat spot onto the spline at about 7 o'clock <---(wasn't the time I did it). Again, a very small flat spot, and it was no biggie.

I took my Kurys off when I installed Softail floorboards (you can see some photos at post #22 on the following link https://www.hdforums.com/m_2668394/tm.htm). I found the Kurywere easy to install and didn't take long. I have an '05 FXDI so not sure if '06-'08 are having difficulty with the shift spline. If you remove the bolt and nut in the photo, there should be no impediment to the shifter slipping directly onto the spline ... but, as I said, I have no experience with post-'05 models.

Here's two different posts with two different responders having trouble with the shifter/spline connection. The second post is the one where the guy required a mallet to get it to fit. There's more posts too but these will suffice. I am wondering if this has been addressed in the newer Kuryakyn kits. No problem either way as I have pretty much decided on getting the Kuryakyn kit.
