I used the blue loctite on pretty much everything. If they come loose I'll have to go to the red.

In looking at 2007fxdc and Priest'spics, it seems the difference in the spline shaft is that they are no longer putting chrome on the spline. His looks chromed while mine is not; maybe that's why mine installed so well and others had trouble putting on the shift lever. Hmmm...anyone else have chrome on the splined shaft?

Thanks Priest but several posts report a problem with the Kuryakyn kit and having trouble mounting the shift lever on newer Dynas. You're right though, you shouldn't have to pound but some have had to.

How did your Kuryakyn kit fit together Priest; or don't you have one?
I took my Kurys off when I installed Softail floorboards (you can see some photos at post #22 on the following link https://www.hdforums.com/m_2668394/tm.htm). I found the Kurywere easy to install and didn't take long. I have an '05 FXDI so not sure if '06-'08 are having difficulty with the shift spline. If you remove the bolt and nut in the photo, there should be no impediment to the shifter slipping directly onto the spline ... but, as I said, I have no experience with post-'05 models.

Bad example using my bike Priest. I did not have to pound my shifter on at all, as a matter of fact it went on quite smoothly. However, the groove in the spline was not large enough or wasn't aligned properly to allow my stock retension bolt to fit back through the shifter. So, what you are pointing out is the smaller bolt with washer and nut I had to use to fasten the shifter on there. However, now that I recently removed my shifter to adjust the position, and noticing that groove for the first time, I'm thinking I may have just not been positioning the shifter correctly to work that stock bolt through there. There is an o-ring between the spline housing and the shifter and I may have just needed to put some pressure on the shifter to get the bolt to line up with the groove well enough to go through properly. I am fine with the way it is now but someday, when I have nothing else to do, I may try going back to the original bolt.

I used blue but plenty of it. I also made sure to let it set up before putting pressure on it. I think that is key. Let it set before you put a lot of vibration to it or pressure from your feet. I also stopped using the stirrup style pegs which eliminates the "lever action" put on the peg mounts and bolts. I haven't had any loosening or issues since I redid everything with blue loc-tite, let it set, and removed the stirrups.

I don't remember my spline being chromed but then I had no issues with getting the shifter on either. I couldn't get the bolt through but now that I think back on it I was probably just being impatient and didn't think to try and line the bolt up with the groove in the spline properly. It's fine how I have it but I may go back and work on that at some point. Maybe when it gets chilly or rainy again and I have nothing else to do.

Just ordered mine from Eastern Preformance about 1/2 hour ago. I can't wait for them to get here! I've wanted them since I bought the bike last Aug!

How long did it take to get 'em in the mail! I feel like a kid in a candy store man!

If they have them in stock (and I haven't ordered anything from them that wasn't yet), you'll probably get an email within an hour saying they are shipped. Then it's just however long ground UPS will take from Gambrills, MD to wherever you are. EP is the bomb! I ordered a new headlight Wed. afternoon and it's scheduled to arrive here today.

While you wait, go out and buy some loc-tite and a tube of anti-sieze if you don't have any already. Be sure to use it liberally wherever instructed.

Mine took3 days to get here. They came UPS and were "signatureonly" which is a pain in the a$$; I was lucky as I had just got home from work when they arrived. The kit had the anti-seize so you don't need to buy that. I supplied my own blue Loctite.quote]ORIGINAL: up in minot

I've never gone to forwards ..... mainly cause the Harley kit for '06-Later models states that you need to pull the inner primary to get the old shifter shaft out. I know many members put '05 kits on andcut that shaft and plugged the hole rather than taking the primary off. I've never looked closely at the Kury Forwards.

So ... the Kury kit leaves the old shiftershaft in place and provides a cover for the splines? That's what I'm seeing in the pics in this thead. What holds the old splined shaft in once it's unbolted?

I just might consider getting the Kury kit now that I see it's simply an exterior bolt-on .... I thought that old shaft would somehow work loose and tear up all hell in the primary were it left in place.

Thanks all ....

Kury kit has a rubber coated "shift arm retainer" part that wedges the old forward shift armlever behind the primary and out of sight. Then a chrome cap is placed on the old spline shaft; no tearing apart the motor.

You could cut off the old lever with a hack saw as I've heard others have done and itsupposedly slides right out no problems. Then you could put the HD brand chrome plug in the hole; still no tearing apart the primary. I may do this later but for now I prefer to stay with the Kury set up so I can switch back if I ever decide.
