OK...on March 4th I ordered an item from Hogties on eBay for $436 (including shipping). This item is an exhuast system (Hard Khrome 2-into-1 Sideburners) that has been discontinued and is very hard to find.
I was given 2 different shipping dates to begin with 3/5 and 3/7. This should have told me something to begin with.
Next, I paid for USPS Priority Mail and received a notice that it would be shipped by DHL. I do a lot of shipping with my business and DHL is the last company that I would ship with. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy with this.
When it arrived (by DHL) the box looked to be in great shape. I opened it up and took the collector/muffler out and heard the baffle moving around.
I was pissed...this system has the baffle welded in permanently for a reason...you can't get to it after it has been completely made. The head pipes are 2 seperate pipes that come together and the collector is part of the muffler body so you can't get to it from the collector end. The other end is about 16-18 inches from the end of the baffle and has a turnout end so you can't get to it from that end.
I immediately called Hogties to let them know about the damaged system and asked if they would be issuing a call tag for it to be picked up. First he said that it wasn't their problem. Then he said to find a muffler shop and have it welded back in. I explained to him how this system is made and that it couldn't be re-welded without having to cut it open. Then he said that it would be a DHL claim and that I would need to send pics of the box to him.
It has now been over a month and I'm getting nowhere. All I want is my money back and for them to take the exhaust back. I offered to ship it back to them and send the tracking # so that he could refund me the money (plus the cost of shipping it back to them) and he refused.
My next step will be to contact the Better Business Bureau, eBay, and PayPal to get my money back.
Just a warning...If you do business with Hogties, you will be screwed over...
that sucks. may be possible to drill a few holes in a spot not noticable, like on the backside of the pipe where the baffle is and weld the baffle to the pipe while filling in the hole. still sucks that they would even give you that much grief over a damaged product.
I don't know if its the same Hogties that's down here in SoCal but I've been to their storefront. Most of their parts, I believe, are take offs from wrecked bikes so what you're saying would make sense.
Contact Ebay, PayPal, your c-card immediately. If it's been a month you need to get movin on it. Squash this punk. Make him eat those pipes and regret f***in with you. Be relentless.
PayPal is pretty useless in getting your money back if you are trying to do it on your own(based on past experience). Your best bet is if you used a credit card to fund the transaction through PayPal isto file a claim with the card company-they will reverse the charges. The card company will then deal with PayPal (this works). This is why it is best to use you credit card for big ticket items when using PayPal rather than having them take it right out of your bank account (which they prefer you to do). Just make sure you have plenty of documents to back up your claim. Usually takes a month or two to clear up but at least if you used a credit card the charge stays reversed during the claim research process and hopefully at the end. Good Luck!
