Default Things I learned today...

Although I've been riding it for a few weeks now, today was the first chance I've had to get really aquainted with my new-to-me '06 Super Glide. I'm coming from a Honda ST1100, and have been riding for about 20 years. This is my first Harley. A few observations:

- Riding long distances at interstate speeds (70mph +) makes me want to get a windshield.

- I also need some saddlebags to be able to carry something on the bike. While riding today, I passed by a nice little bakery and thought that maybe I should stop in and get some nice bread, then remembered - no where to put it.

- the two bolts on the fuse box sidecover don't do anything. I was turning them for what seemed like forever, thinking to myself "geez, these bolt must be long as hell", only to go check my service manual and discover that you take that cover off by "pulling firmly". What are those bolts for?

- The Power Commander III that came with the bike when I bought it really does make it run better. Just for fun I unplugged it and took a spin without it. Much leaner running - lots of popping on decelaration, harder to be smooth, different, higher pitched exhaust note (?), but smoother running at 65-70mph for some reason. I put the PCIII back on, and like it much better. I have a bit of popping on decelaration, but nothing like without the PCIII.

- I'm starting to really, really like this bike. It's good on the highway, good around town, and can be wrung out pretty good on the backroads too. I think I've got myself a keeper!

I've been experimenting with adding a little fuel at the 0 Throttle position to cure the popping.
You may want to try that.
Oh, BTW, Congratulations on the new bike.

Glad you like it. You don't like the decorative bolts? Don't worry, I did the same thing. Get a service manual, it'll help in those situations.

I have the service manual... it's just that I didn't check it until those damn bolts wouldn't come off! [&:]

+1 on the windshield. Make it a detachable one so that you can use it to get to an rally or event on the interstate then washit in the shower and stow it oin the hotel room while you cruise, booze and get some wind.

Windshields can be tricky. I had to instal lowers to iliminate the bufeting. Those bolts hold on the bracket that clips the cover on. If youve loosend them you may want to take it off and make sure theyre tight

On my initial test run, adding "10" at 0 throttle at 1500 rpm's and up thru 6000 rpm, it seems to be OK.
It waqs only a 20+ mile jaunt.
It's a really nice day here, so I'm going to do a little more tweaking, hopefully.

I did the same thing to the bolts on my lowrider and I was told that they are like that for an added sense of security so people dont just walk up and pull it off thinking it is bolted down.
