Default Primary Plug Leaks

I have forward controls and the cheap plug they use to fill the hole in the primay leaks.
Anyone else have problems with this plug leaking and how did you cure it.

skip, the only way you will have a leak there is -

if this gasket is forked up. (red arrow below, part# 63869-06)

Has nothing to do with what you call"the cheapplug".

Mud nailed it.
I had that little gasket changed under warranty afew of months ago. The original from the factory had slipped down a little upon installation of the outer primary cover and pinched it just enough for it to eventually fail. They showed me the old gasket and it had the impression of the gasket surface of the outer primary cover and where the shifter rod had folded the gasket over into the tower that it passes through. A new gasket and no leaks from the shifter any more.

Thanks tbone, that may be what happened to mine also but my local dealer won't cover it because I didn't buy the bike from them and it is and after marketpart that wasinstalled buyanother dealer. They might fix it but I figure it will cost me more to trailer it there then the parts cost. At least when I bought it last year it was $2000 less then my local dealer and the forward controls were free.

It was the $.95 tower gasket leaking. Too bad the primary gasket cost $30.40 & another $7.50 for the derby cover gasket just to fix it. I guess if you want it done right you have to do it yourself.

Way to go skip. Take the bull by the horns.

I have one of the 30 dollar gaskets hanging on the wall,
ready to go.

I reused the original, and kept an eye open for drips
or seepage. No problems after a year and a half or so.

+1 Happened to me after the dealer installed forward controls, took it back and they replaced the gasket and made me happy.
