I was stationed in Ketchikan, Alaska as a First Class from 1985 to 1989 with the U. S. Coast Guard (I've since retired). I was riding my 1979 FXS Lowrider into work in uniform and I felt a bug hit me in the chest, but no sting. Nothing serious so I kept riding. I was standing in ranks for colors when the little bugger (must have been a wasp) must have come to and started stinging me on my back right above the kidney. Got me about three or four times. In the middle of colors while at attention, I started yelling and shucking my shirt. I thought I had squashed it after the third or fourth sting, but it flew off when I got my shirt off. Needless to say, I got a few stares from my command and fellow Coasties on that one.
On a side note, the command at that time didn't like motorcycles, especially mine as it was flashy. When I won "Sailor of the Quarter" I parked the bike right in the middle of the Sailor of the Quarter parking spot. They didn't like it, but there wasn't much they could do.

i caught a bee in the mouth on my way to missouri... 1 week later i owned a windshild... and a freezer full of freezy pops!

true story. Back in the early sixties I had a Triumph 650 & had no helmet. Alabama passed a helmet law but I had no cash so I took my fathers hard hat (he was a construction worker) & put a chin strap on it. Not quite DOT but it kept the LEO away for the most part. If you're familar with these, they have a plastic head piece suspended in the hard hat so there's about one inch of air gap around your head. Well I caught a yellow jacket or a wasp in there who stung me "machine-gun" style all over the head until I got stopped. In all my life I don't think I've ever been in that severe of a pain again. I made it to the ER & they gave me a shot of something that put me down for about 24 hours.
