Well I went riding today for the first time in more in about 6 weeks. (Two cataract surgeries and a messed up back). The back was feeling a lot better and the eyesight is much improved (although I am still waiting for the final prescription for my glasses and still jave a boatload of astigmatism) I decided to see if the Super Glide would start. Turned right over and started on the first try. Thought, Well I shouldn't just let the engine idle..let's ride it around the parking lot near where I live. Damn, that was fun, let's go for a ride on the road. Rode around a long block (maybe 3 miles) brought her back and used some McGuiars Quick Detailer and Bom to get the dust off. put the detachable windshield back on and went back in, Back still wasn't feeling too bad, so I called the wife and told her that I was going to go over to the dealer's tonight for supper. Chili Dog's, chips and Pumpkin Pie with Cool Whip and several bikers to talk to. I didn't want to push it to far, so I didn't go on the drinks/dessert ride to a town about 30 miles away, but stayed til Dusk, then rode the 4 or 5 miles back home.
Two thoughts from the day.
1. The back and eyes are just fine for riding (at least 20-50 mile distances) and I'm going to be riding every day I can from now on.
2. Damn. that windshield needs lowered. It's fine during the day, but at twilight and night, I need to be able to see over it, rather than looking through it.
All in all, a very good day, bike-wise and the therapy which I desperately needed today.
Look out, cause I'm back on the road now. Nest week I'm going to take Rte 66 from Bloomington to Pontiac (35-40 miles each way) and pretend I'm Bronson! (Somebody else can explain that allusion to the children).
The weather here in IL is just perfect for riding now and I am so READY! Just had to share. Art
Howdy Art glad to hear that you were able to go out and have an enjoyable ride. I understand about the winshield thing, that's why I just wear goggles instead. Have a nice ride tomorrow.
sounds like a great day for you...sometimes don't realize just how much we miss something when we are recuperating from medical issues. I mean, we know we miss the riding, but that first day back out - dang, it is overwhelming how great it feels.
Well, I bragged too soon. Woke up this morning and the back hurt like a you-know-what!
I was able to manage it with just several Advil w/out any Darvoceet, so plan to get out again over the weekend.
I just need to keep stretching those muscles and doing the PT exercises.
