So let me "still wet behind the ears with harleys" get this. You can just add the new tire to the stock rim?
Yes.................. Winchester HD did mine, just the tire.

My parts guy there only suggested he thought I would need the kit on my 06 FXDI. I explained that I had the QD sissybar and was confident it wouldn't be necessary, and also stated I would take responsibility for the wiring, etc.
No problems, the tire was ordered and installed without issue.
I am sure it will be even easier when I order the next SE 180, and have them install it, also............ along with the SE front tire.

I don't tend to think that HD dealerships are evil in their intent, although some human beings/business people, no matter what they are involved in are going to lie to you and get whatever they can out of you.......... buy a used car or house, lately??

Same thing happened with my 08 Dyna speedo/tach combo I ordered from them. The catalog says for 07/08 Dyna models. The parts guy has know way of knowing better than HD that a part will or will not fit, if a parts catalog says otherwise.

My parts guy now knows the SE180 will fit my 06 FXDI with no problem, and he now knows the 07/08 Dyna Speedo/tach combo will work on an 06 Dyna, also. With that little bit of knowledge, he may make a few extra tire and combo speedo/tach sales.

Hey Doug, what about the wires going down to the tail light? I just rechecked everything and my signal wires and everything running on either side to those points where the strut backplate holds the wires back seems to be as out of the way as anything could be. But I'm curious about the wires that extend from there to the tail light. Any issues there where they need to be moved? They appear to be somewhat tight.

'06 Wide Glide here. Thanks for doing this research. Nice to know I won't be padding my stealer's pockets any more than I need to. Anything else I need to know about putting the 180 tire on my stock laced wheel? I do run the quick detach sissy bar but didn't need any signal relocation...any problems there?

ghost, the kit basically just retains the wires out of the way of the wider tire. As a result of your own dilligence you find that your wires, as they are now, will not be at risk of coming into contact with the wider tire, or if you can do your own work to make sure they are and stay out of the way, then you are good to go without the kit. Your dealer may tell you otherwise, however. Mine told me they wouldn't install the tire without the kit but could not even give me any details on what was in the kit or what it does. All the svc. manager did was mumble something about different spacers. BS! The rim is the same so different spacers are not needed.
