Thanks for your efforts. I want one for mine, I have to lean way forward to see my analog clearly. I have not had my console light come on when I get low, but I have been well into reserve according to the gauge.

I have never gotten any flashing out of my flush mount. The other style that looks like a second, stock gas cap (and has the LED's around the bezel) sez that its last LED does flash as you're nearing "fumes"...I think it goes from blue to red also.

In times past, when the 2nd to last LED went out, the low fuelicon on the speedo was soon to light up or had recently lit. I seem to remember reading in the owner's manual that when the indicator lit on the speedo, you had about a gallon remaining.
I've always heard that it wasn't a good idea to run any FI vehicle dry; fuel pump can overheat/fail if pumping air? I don't recall any warnings in the manual about it, though. I figger'd if I turned off the ignition or kill switch at the first sign of sputtering, I wouldn't hurt anything. But I'll defer to the expertise of any FI specialists out there.
The low fuel icon on your console being lit totally depends on the accuracy of your gauge. My stock gauge used to never show full and it would always trigger the light with well over 2 gallons left in the tank. After I installed my tank lift, the gauge is much more accurate and the low fuel light comes on between 1 and 2 gallons left. Some have the opposite effect with tank lifts - go figure.

As far as running it out completely - it's your bike. For me, there are just 2 things I don't really care about and they are gas mileage and distance per tank. By the time I'm getting anywhere close to empty, I'm welcoming an opportunity to stop and take a break anyway. And it doesn't matter if you buy your gas 3 gallons at a time or 5 gallons at a time, it will end up costing you the same thing in the long run anyway.

Yep, the other type of LED fuel gauge goes from blue then when it reaches one LED light it turns to a red flashing, after that the red one comes on steady. When that happens on my WG I have about .5 gal left. I wish the low fuel light still worked on the speedometer like it does with yours. Also the flush one has a low fuel light built into the guage does it not?

Airborne;

No additional "low fuel" indicator that I'm aware of. It does have a constantly-lit blue gas pump icon in the middle of the unit; you can barely see it in the picture of my original post. (And thanks for your service)

2007;

I understand your reasoning; makes practical sense. I'm kind of an information junkie, especially so when I get a new toy. I like to learn all I can about its capacities, part numbers for consumables and the like, tire pressures -solo/2-up, etc. I anticipate some longer road trips, likely thru somesparsely populated regions of the West. When I see one of those "Next Gas, umpty-squatch miles", or see a lot of space between the Podunkville and Boonieville dots on a map,I want the reassurance of knowing whether I'm good to go. The data in my opening post prob'ly sez a whole lot more about me than it does about the gauge .
