I think waht I meant to say is, "That's what my dealer told me too......something to do with the fact that the risers and mounting bracketsare all part of the same fabrication. Apparently you can take the stock risers and mounts off and fitdifferent risers and mounts that areeither stock Harley or aftermarket parts."
Anyway I am sure someone on here will know and correct me !
On the 08s, the risers are an integrated part of the upper triple tree. A couple guys here have used a take-off upper tree from an 06 - 07 to work around the riser issue.

Any idea if this required fabrication, or was it a bolt on? My dealer told me the same thing. He also told me if you buy a new 06-07 triple tree from H-D, you can't just buy the upper but must buy the whole thing. 14" Apes is the way I'm thinking of going if I think Ican get away with doing it w/o changing the cables.
It should be a straight bolt-up with no fabs or mods needed.
The upper and lower trees have separate part numbers, therefore should be available separately.
I sold my take offs to waterman7474. I believe he was going to powdercoat them and install. This would leave him with his old trees as take-offs. Might be worth PMing him.
Definitely must change triple tree (top one anyway) since risers are integrated with the top tree - no fab needed for new risers, just an expensive parts swap - stupid moco idea!
Look into a set of dog bone risers. I saw a guy running a pair of these on his 08. Looked great. You will need a piece of 1" tubing capped to your style on the ends. That bolts into the factory riser. The dog bones attach to that tube and your bars attach to the other end of the dog bones. Looks killer. Lots of the old school bikes used to run them. The
Captain America bike in Easy Rider has them. The duplicate bike Nicolas Cage rides in Ghost Rider has them.
Thanks for the conformation.
Dog bone riserswill work too cheers.
I was hoping to put on some of those curved risers on so I couldget the bars a bit closer to me, so I don't feel like I am stretched out on a rack.
May just go for bigger apes now I know this.
I haven't seen "dog bone" style risers in years I had a set on my 68 Bonneville chop and loved them. They add a extra level of adjustability that you won't get with the standard bolt through the triple style riser.
