I have the same rattle it is coming from the chrome piece that covers the wires that go to your signal lights. It is held on by a flimsy plastic bracket the bracket flexes when I hit bumps and the cover rattles. Lift the bottom of the cover and let go when it goes slams back you should hear the rattle you are looking for.
That chrome decorative cover on the handlebars is on pretty good on my bike, it's not loose or rattling. It's not the detachable sissy bar, I know how that sounds when it rattles and I fixed it some time ago. I've got the harley forward controls and the brake pedal has some play in it where it rotates on its support, I'm going to put my foot under the break pedal to hold it still and go over some bumps to see if that quiets it. The tank is on pretty tight I think, I hope nobody threw any bolts inside it! Thanks again for all the suggestions.
Coop, I mentioned earlier that my rear brake pedal and rod were rattling on my FXDC...actuallythiswas with theHarley forward controls as well. I wrapped a couple turns of 20 or 22awg solid copper wire around where the pedalrotates on the shaft to take up the slop until I can find a wave washer the right size. A couple thin 1/4" washers on the brake rod clevis pin took care of the rattle from it.
Coop and Zevron....what did you do to fix the rattle of that little clip - mine rattles as I accelerate, decelerate as well....it just pulls off and is very loose....what can I do to make it secrure and not rattle???thanks.
I read through the thread here, ever get this figured out? I think I have the same thing on my 07 FXDC. It's not a "clunk", more like a "tink". Sounds like a piece of plastic snapping or something. It doesn't happen over every bump, but seems to happen more when the road surface drops. Speed bumps can usually make it happen too.
I've removed the tank lift, windshield, and back rest. I've checked the fender, brake pedal, and kickstand stop.
I'm about ready to do the "clunk fix" even though the sound is different than what I've heard described here.
