As long as the rings had a chance to seat.....way less than 1000 miles.....ya probably did the same break in which I've used on my scoots......

It's a Harley.......ride it hard......and often........fix it when it breaks......

Respects,
Ed

Heres how I look at it. When that bike comes off the assembly line it goes into what they call a rolltest booth. The bike is set on rollers and a human physically rides it on the rollers and runs through the gears, speedo is checked for calibration, hi/lo headlight, turn sigs and whatnot. Some of the fellasthat do the test aren't exactly easy on your bike before it gets crated and shipped, if you know what I mean.

Rings seat in first 50 miles.
The rest of the break in is to wear parts in to mate correctly - rpm and load I think are less of an issue than the the following:

1. Ring break in
2. Oil change to get rid of all the debris from assembly and break in.

I changed my fluids as follows:
500 miles - engine
1000 miles- all (first service)
3000 miles - engine
6000 miles - engine and primary

Rings are best broken in under a load as it gives them more sealing pressure against the cylinder wall.

Cool guys sounds as though I'm just peachy! I love riding it nice 'n easy but I love feeling the raw power under my seat so.......... RIDE ON. Weird though I'm only getting about 170 miles to a tank. My dealer tells me once it's broken in I should get about 250 it's a 96 CI. I hope he's right!

I think your dealer is pulling your chain, I have just over 2200 miles on my 07 Lowrider and I have never gotten more than 165 miles out of a tank of fuel. But then again I do not want to run out and be stranded. Good luck with the scooter and enjoy, I rode mine hard all the way from the dealer to the house which was about 110 mile trip.

I agree with Farns , add one other point....it's not so much the speed or even the rpms the worst thing you can do to a new motor is "drone it" that is to stay at one rpm for extended periods of time... like on the highway...

I gotta tell you, I thought you were joking at first...the assembly and materials used today ...break in .... whatever..... just run it up and down the rev range ...you'll be fine.. well, except for your over obsessive **** retentive disorder!!!! that should pass after the first time your bike pukes a quart of oil down your leg on the highway.....

Enjoy.....

I like the "break it in like you're gonnaride it rule" too. And, what the hell, it's covered for two years and you might have the itch again by then anyway. I rode the chit out of my dyna and haven't noticed a thing - I took it easier on the RKC for the first 500 milesand avoided the "drone"thing mentioned by rmatt. At 1,000 I added the 103 to my RKand have been enjoying the power and speed I get from it on long and short rides.

Dyna's are incredible bikes and I love mine for around time and short rides, but - The King really isthe King of the Road!
