I broke mine in less than a week, picked her up on the Tuesday afternoon, went for a ride on Wednesday, first service- Monday morning. You should be good to go. Wind her up and let her rip.
I've almost broke mine in... The only thing the dealer told me was to check the oil at every gas up, and not "drone" the engine on longer runs, by changing gears every once in a while, etc...
When I did my engine build, I did a gentle first 50 miles, changed the engine fluid, then rode it relatively tame for the next 950 miles (well not really) with another fluid change at 500. At about 1100 miles, I switched back to synthetic oil and took it in for the dyno tune. You just don't want to put your engine under too high of heat loads during break-in as to cause glazing, but you really have to get things hot to do that.
You'll be fine. Now get it into the shop for stage I, and if you've done that get it at least cammed and tuned.
There's alot of HD propaganda out there and I think this is one of them. I've read people in AIM who don't necessarily subscribe to the strick break in period. I'd hold to the spirit of the rule but not the letter. You'll be fine.
dont think you hurt a thing as others have said first 50 miles rings and bearings seat next couple of hundred good to vary RPM Just make sure you did or are doing the 1,000 service get that oil out
Thank you all for checking in on this for me. The anti-drone ride was getting on my nerves but at least I managed to do that right! i never held a steady speed for more than two minutes during first 1000 miles always varying between 5 mph + or - and when in a situation where I was in a hurry I would switch between 5th and 6th,sometimes 4th and 5th for obvious reasons. I know I didn't go that crazy I'm just not the abusive type. I'm sure lots 'o dudes hammer a mchine worse than I did the worry is fading ! And now my fluids have been changed at first service and they gave her a clean bill of health , even told me she was real solid ====== Man! i sure love riding!!! Happy trails dudes!
