Default Highest mileage w/o engine rebuild?

So Friends, I am just getting ready to pick up a one owner 120,000 mile 01 roadking classic. This bike has only had the cam repair at 75k and regular servicing with synthetics. I have a newer road king with 5k on it and was stunned that this older bike ran out JUST LIKE THE NEW ONE! This bike is a testament to the machines we ride -it is just amazingly tight, other than a couple rock chips it even looks new.

My plan is for it to be a second bike for times like when my son wants to tour with me.

This is a 88 with vance & Hines two into one, FI with a tuner. Goes like mad with no smoke or noises or issues of any kind. I was told when it gets tired rebuild the upper end and keep going with the lower for over 200k.

Am I an idiot for thinking this bike could go long distances reliably? Do Harley engines wear out gradual or go away in a big catastrophic boom?

I know a guy in NC that has a 99 Ultra. The last time I talked to him early last Spring, he had 186,000 on his. He has done the cam shoes and a set of base gaskets. He rides it to work 35 miles each way.winter and summer. Yes it's a little noisy, but it still runs. He doesn't ride it hard, It's a means of transportation he loves..

I don't think there's a limit. It's all in how they're taken care of, and if they are serviced properly and often....

Wow 186,000 miles. I don't know whether I am more impressed with the engine or the man.

Thanks for the responses.

Has anyone heard of an actual blow up resulting in ceasing to run?
