Default Front Brake Lever Install

While putting on new levers I did what the instructions asked me not to do. While installing the front brake lever I ended up tearing the rubber boot to the stop lamp switch which is in the switch housing. Can anybody tell me if there WAS something protruding from the boot that snapped off and also can I just fix the stop lamp switch or do I have to replace the whole switch housing? Thanks

Your not the first, did you break the switch or just tear the boot?

Looking at it the boot is torn but I think I also broke the switch because the brake light will not reset / go off when the lever is released.. I don't think the switch is being pushed in enough by the lever to disengage. If I wrap the portion of the lever that contacts the switch with elec tape then the brake light turns off. I would be ok with this but since the boot is ripped I think there might be a crud problem eventually. Is the switch fairly easy to replace? Thanks for all the help

I broke mine over a year ago...took the lever off...built it up with some JB Weld...sanded it all down nice and it works like a charm and no worries about breaking it again.

FWIW, I changed my switch controls out to chrome this weekend and tore the rubber boot around the brake switch, but didn't break the switch. I searched this forum for ideas and then came up with the idea below. My apologies if this has been posted before. I could not find it.

All I did was take a rubber surgical glove and cut a 1"-2" square out of the palm. In the cener of the square, use a nail or center punch to make a very small hole. Then take the piece and stretch it over the tip of the brake switch. The tiny hole should expand enough to get over the tip of the switch and then contract underneath the tip to form a tight seal. Then just wrap the remaining material around the switch and re-install.
