Tonight while I was riding I took off after taking a break and I went to grab second gear and heard a grinding noise...as I came to a stop and downshifted I heard it again. I found that when the bike was in neutral or when I had the clutch lever pulled all the way in you could hear something grinding in the primary. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? I stopped at a friends house on the way home...then it never did it again.
AI,
I had something similar happen to me and I only had 100 miles on my WG! It wasa clips that had come loose and was rolling around in the Primary. Yours should be covered under warranty still, if it is not, lean on the service mgr at the stealer. Mine was covered with no issue and I had it back withina week. They will have to get permission from Corp to open up the primary, after that, they will redo the clip and you are all good. I hope that is the issue! Irritating yes.... Let me know if that was the issue, and don't hesitate on getting your scoot into service..... bring it in or have them pick it up....
I just had the 5,000 mile service done on it a few weeks ago and only have about 300 miles on it since then. I am going to bring it over there today and see what they think. Hopefully its making the noise so they can hear it.
Just got back from the dealer and they said there is a chain tensioner in there that can get "hung up" and cause that noise and once it releases its fine. Hmm...ok!

Dude, F-that. Your bike is under warranty - make them fix it. What if it's not the chain tensioner and you grind something up and/or are left on the side of the road somewhere. That's the next to the sorriest thing they could have told besides "it's normal". I've been on here almost daily for almost 8 months now and this is the first I've heard of this. If it's something that happens now and then, I think we would have seen reports of it by now. That may very well be the problem but it's still a problem, and they should fix it.
The chain tensioner, at least on my '04, is a solid mounted piece of nylon block that rubs on the bottom of the bottom primary chain run. I can't see how the tensioner could get "hung up", unless the design on the later models is different, and even then if something got "hung up", it would get ripped off because that chain is flying in there...the chain is spinning at the same speed as your motor because it's hooked to the end of the crankshaft.
Sounds like they are feeding you a line, but I could be wrong....

I don't think they are BSing you. It is an auto tensioner, and my understanding is it can do this little thing on ocassion.
You took it in, it was documented. If it becomes a problem take it back and they will fix it. JMHO
So the new models have auto-tensioners? That's nice - need to get one for my '04 because it's a PITA trying to guess the play with my finger...! Never mind when you drop sockets and such in the primary...but we won't speak of that [:@]
