Default Just do it!

I love my 2006 FXDWGI. When I bought my bike in January I added SE II slip ons. Being a new HD owner I have spent a few months on this forum agonizing over what tuner to use, about whether aftermarket exhaust needed a new map, even worring about what air cleaner to use in the Stage I. I have spent hours reading everything I could about the SERT, TFI, and PC III. After awhile I guess I came to the realization that it's about the ride. I was tired of the popping on deceleration and the hesitation sometimes when I pull on the throttle. I couldn't spend another night worrying if I was going to do the wrong thing. So I just went to my HD dealership, talked to the dyno tech about what he feels most comfortable tuning, and then just did it.

I came away with an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Air Cleaner Kit (yes they were able to fit the faceplate perfectly-I understand one is available for the 2006 Dynas now). I put a Power Commander III on my stock ECM-I chose not to do the PC III Rev Xtend. I had installed a "safety 2006 Dyna" map that was included in the price of the PC III. At 1000 miles I will do a dyno tune and a custom map.

When I hit the ingnition button the bike started immediately. I did not have the same experience that others have had with cold starting a PC III. When I hit the road it was like I was on a different bike! No popping, no hesitation, just power! When I rolled on the throttle the bike just seemed so smooth, not at all like before. The throttle response is immediate. I have only had it in this configuration for one day and I only hope it continues to please me as much on down the road. My only negative comment is that the bike seems to idle a little faster than before-but that's no biggie.

My point of this, as an inexperienced new HD owner, is that sometimes too much information can lead to indecision and needless worrying. I spent nearly $20,000 on my bike out the door. I didn't want to screw something up. In the end, it's riding the bike that counts. Sometimes you just have to trust somebody to lead you in the right direction. I know I spent a long time with the service department at my dealership picking their collective brains about SERTs and PC IIIs. They do both. In the end I just trusted them. And you know what, at least for me, they did the right thing. For me, a stage I is about as far as I plan to go with this bike. I think the PC III will do fine for me.

The important thing is - I did it. Now I can get back to enjoying my ride and stop worrying. Spring is around the corner!

good post. I have finally made up my mind as well. After wondering, pondering about what my plans and intensions were, I have decided also to go the PCIII, V&H short shots and SE a/c w/K&N replacement. At first it was about sound and not knowing the harm and damage I could have caused by running around with out mufflers and no sort of efi tune. After spending time around these forums I re-installed the muffs until the V&H pipes are released and efi controller comes in.
Now if I could catch a break in the weather.....

I'm glad you made a decision. You have to get to the point that you must trust your own instincts and reputable advice. This forum has been very helpful to me, but I would find myself changing my mind over and over as I read new posts and talked to more experienced HD owners. In the end, I decided I wanted to go with some decision and start riding. I made my choice. Now I don't worry about damaging my bike.

Sorry..not to go off the subject, but I really REALLY like the yellow DWG! That might be the first 06 I've seen in that color. Nice choice man. Love mine too, but if I hadn't gotten what I got, that would've been my second choice

Thanks.

The pic doesn't do the Pearl Yellow justice. The paint is irridescent, with fine sparkles imbedded in the paint. I like it for safety reasons-it stands out!

If you really want to see an awesome HD paint job, check out the new Pearl Dragonfly Green. If I had seen that color in person I would have waited and ordered the WG in that color.

I walked into an HD dealership in another state recently and I saw a Fat Boy in the Pearl Dragonfly. It was gorgeous. The bike didn't stay on the showroom floor more than one day-sold immediately. My local dealership has two bikes in the Dragonfly color, bet they won't last. You really need to see this color!
