Default Exhaust Gaskets

Well I'm looking at putting on my pipes and intake on my day off and was wondering do I need to get new exhaust gaskets ? And if so which ones ?

You need the ones that the parts book calls out for your bike. They are cheap insurance and a lot cheaper than a valve job or new heads.

On my Sporty I replaced the factory gaskets with the same piece. On the Dyna I bought the Screamin' Eagle gaskets and kind of wish I hadnt. They are thin and the exhaust flange gets awfully close to the head as you tighten it down. If/when I take these pipes off for whatever reason i'll go back to the stockers.

My 07 Street Bob is already on its third set of pipes. When I bought it I put short shots on it and didnt replace the gaskets...no issues. Over the winter I took the short shots off and put on side shots...it was the second swap that I did the new gaskets.

you definitely need to change them, they are crush gaskets and so work one time only. I used SE ones but i know some folks didnt get on with them. I am sure standard are fine, either way you gotta replace them and i would also get new clips while your at the stealer,,, once torqued up and run a while you will need to re-torque and maybe even a few days after that also...

Blacked out you asked a question and are getting a couple of different answers....point being that you should do whatever makes you feel right about it.

Even the SE ones are just a few bucks - do it.

i'vehave not replaced the gasket on the primary cover or inspection cover in the three years I have had my bike, and they have both been off a lot.
I have had the headers off once to put on new exhaust, I spent the few bucks.

For the record I agree to buy new ones (gaskets) and if you need them theyre there. Ive just always gotten away with one change and not needing to do so. Always better to aire on the side of caution. I just hate given them more than I need to.
