I installed forward controls from drag specialties.....
I left the shaft in (did not saw it off or anything)...put it out of the way as suggested on the in the forum...capped it so it stayed in place...no problems with neutral.
I fitted HD forward controls myself and left the "short" rear arm and mid control sa they were and had no problems in finding "N" up or down. I did eventually get the stealer to remove the mid and fit the "longer" purely for looks and wasnt keen on the mid lever left hanging. Either way finding "N" wasnt a problem.
Raiderse,
I think you just need to practice going into neutral.Try not moving the lever as much, it doesn't take much movement to go into neutral. I have over eight thousand miles on my forward control set upand have not had a problem.
If you haven't already done so,you might consider replacing the factory shift rod with the Harley or aftermarket shift rod with heim ends. Sounds like there's some slop in your linkage somewhere.

RE: H-D Forward Control Install Warning!!!
Been thinking about the remark concerning holding in the clutch, but when I stop I have the bike in 1st, with the front end aimed towards some clear space. I've been rear ended twice in a car so I watch the mirrors very closely while I'm stopped. My thinking is if I see someone approaching too fast from the rear that I can scoot out of the way. I don't think holding in the clutch causes excessive wear, been doing this for a long time.
I opted to have the dealer put them on my 06.
He gave me a great deal on the instal off season and I figure that I have saved lots of cash using the manual and this forum so what the hell. Getter' done right. Just MOP
Agreed, but I just wanted people to be aware of this because they (like me) may not be prepared for the extra cost which is considerable.
THis isnt a rant , just a "watch-out" or "Warning"
Dam...suck it up and be Harley man!
I can get mine into neutral from second every time and since I went to a heavier fluid I can get neutral from first most times.
I bet yourlittle sistercould do it...hundreds of us have done it this way...you should immediately sell me your Dyna before its too late....and If you cant hack it maybe you should just buy a Honda and move along.
Been on Harleys since '90 this is my Sixth new Harley. 90 883 Sportster 91 1200 Sportster 82 Wide Glide, '04 RoadKing, '04 ElectraGlide Classic and now '08 DYNA. I have a couple around , never had one that I couldn;t find neutral, I guess Honda must have been making these forquite some time.
