I fitted HD forward controls myself and left the "short" rear arm and mid control sa they were and had no problems in finding "N" up or down. I did eventually get the stealer to remove the mid and fit the "longer" purely for looks and wasnt keen on the mid lever left hanging. Either way finding "N" wasnt a problem.
What year is your DYNA and What make forwards?

THanks

If you haven't already done so,you might consider replacing the factory shift rod with the Harley or aftermarket shift rod with heim ends. Sounds like there's some slop in your linkage somewhere.

Good Luck

Tom
Already done at install Tried Both Shift Rods, no slop

Raiderse,
I think you just need to practice going into neutral.Try not moving the lever as much, it doesn't take much movement to go into neutral. I have over eight thousand miles on my forward control set upand have not had a problem.

I did a search on your posts, you may want to re-readall the posts in thisone: https://www.hdforums.com/m_3423418/tm.htm
I have been playing with the set up most of the weekend. even went back to the dealer and bought the fromnt shift arm from the '05 earlier kit. no difference. Not sure aboutt he diff in an '06 - '08 but there must be something different.
Your post was very informative,. I just wanted people to know about the probability of the added expense that they may not be financially ready for.

I didn't cut my original center shiftarm off and instead made a bracket to anchor it to the engine case out of the way of the back lever in case I ever wanted to go back to the mid controls. The earlier kits for the 2003 models came with a bracket for this purpose as well as a shifter rod cover which the newer kits do not. The newer kit comes with a longer shift rod to replace the one on the transmission which can not be installed without removing the covers in my opinion and I decided to leave the original lever even though shorter on the bike with my new forward controls. It is hard to get into nuetral and I have to have the engine running to do so in most cases but none the less as time has passed since the install I am finding it easier and easier to get the bike into neutral. I have approx 16,000 miles on the bike now and no complaints. To remove all the primary covers and clutch assembly to install this kit in my opinion is a way for Harley to make more money on the install. I do all my own work so therefore will not take it to the stealer unless I have a major issue.

you're wrong about it wearing the clutch - it's just hard on your hand to hold it in. It's safer though.
It doesn;t wear the clutch but I believe it it hard on the throwout bearing.
Your clutch will die before the throwout bearing does, and you replace both at the same time.

Dam...suck it up and be Harley man!
I can get mine into neutral from second every time and since I went to a heavier fluid I can get neutral from first most times.
I bet yourlittle sistercould do it...hundreds of us have done it this way...you should immediately sell me your Dyna before its too late....and If you cant hack it maybe you should just buy a Honda and move along.
nice answer

Well I installed the HD forwards and I followed the instructions all the way through. Removed the mid arm and such by taking it apart as instructed and have had no problems. Yes it did take longer, no doubt but I followed the instructions and to date, no problem. I feel your frustrations and can only say that maybe you could go back to it and do it by the instructions and try that. I am notsure if this will help just a suggestion. Good luck and do not give up. Others have had good luck doing the easier way and maybe there is something you may have overlooked or just have had some bad luck, just maybe go over everything again. Something is wrong, not sure what.
