Default A tech question driving me nuts

Over the winter I swapped my lower sliders with Chrome CCI replacement ones (98' fxdwg) and something in the assembly process is bugging me... When I was putting the front wheel back on I noticed that -following the service manual specs- that there was extra space between the slider and stock spacer on the non-disc brake side (right side?) I sort of pulled/snugged the slider to the spacer and tightened the slider cap bolts.. This was a direct swap from when the bike was fine and parked in the fall. The bike runs ok and I can take my hands off the bars and the bike runs straight, but I 've just been wondering if the Custome Chrome replacements needed an extra shim or pulling the lowers togetherwas alright.

What do you all think?? It's a dumb question butcrap like this drives me nuts. I'm a bit of a Harley Hypocondriac.
Also, I know the stock spacers are on the correct sides but I didn't pay attention to tapered edges or groove orientation when installing.

I'm a little confused by your desciption. I have a WG front end on my chopper and the front axle locates the wheel/disc by tightening the axle nut, then "floating" the other end in the leg clamp wherever it ends up. Mine goes flush with the outside of lower leg clamp without binding. If your disc lines up, the spacers are right. You should not force the legs together as you said because you are binding the legs on the tubes. This will cause excessive wear on your slider bushings even though it might not be noticable while riding.

Wow, I didn't think of the Bearing wear issue.

To calarify...I followed the manual..I temporarily tightened the slider cap bolts, tightened axle bolt to spec, the rotor spun ok in the floating caliper area. When I looked to the slider cap side to retighten bolts to spec is where i noticed the spacer had a gap the width of a washer between the inside of the slider and the spacer -I could spin the spacer with my fingers. I really don't think it was like that with stock slider. That's why I was questioning the tolerences of the custom chrome replacement sliders. I may try to find a CCI tech Phone# today to give a call. I'll probably also just jack up the bike and do the the steps all over again and see what happens.

Thanks for the input.
