insurance totaled it, but kept the bike, so i dont get much money. i dont know how that insurance math works, but i dont like it. somehow a bike with a perfectly good engine and transmission is damaged more than 50% of its value, but they only reimburce me for the little of the bike that, accordiong to them, is still alright. way less than it would cost to fix it with dealer parts. i didnt even think about rapping the pipes. i didnt really have time i guess, it all happened so fast.
I was lucky, I was going slow enough and it was still quite daylight, so itwas easy to spot.So I had plentytime to hit on the pipes.
Although back in April when we got a couple good days of riding, I baaaarely escaped catching one the hard way.
It was dusk... I was on some country road... knew all about deer being about, but I let my guard down enjoying the scenery. I'm crusing along about 50 mph and then saw this semi-dark shape at the side of the road ahead... was almost dreamlike where I was asking myself, what is that?? The next second it dawned on me and my headlight hit it... it stepped into the road right in front of me, I hit hard on the front brake and slowed down real quick... missed hitting him broadside by about 7ft... that was close enough for me.
I've since been a bit more diligent about watching for them. Guess that's all you can do, cause you never know when one will just jump out there.
That sucks about the insurance... hope you can get a deal somewhere with what they did give you, or maybe a decent downpayment.
The easiest way to shoot a deer: Slow the bullet down to 55mph, and mount little headlights and a beeping horn. They'll just jump right in front of the bullet. Seriously though glad you are ok.
Is that the reason for those spike axle covers? Kinda like Danny Zuko's '48 Ford? Take the deer out before they take you out?
BTW - Condition, you have a derby cover coming UPS.
spikes...hmmm. bullets are good too, but we seem to be more effective on a bike than with a gun sometimes. thanks to everyone for all the offers of parts. the original post has been edited to add a front master cylinder cover and right switch housing
