Default Zero to 60

I was on Illinois 59 today when a guy on a Softail came up on me from behind. Very nice exhaust note and he closed the distance in nothing flat. At the traffic signal he was right behind me, so I thought I would have to move out quick to avoid embarrassment.
&nbsp\\;
When the light changed, I let 'er rip. When I looked, he was a half mile back, and I was up to 60 MPH in nothing flat. Obviously he held back, but it got me to wondering: Just how fast are these Dynas? It felt like I was up to 60 MPH in about 3 seconds.
&nbsp\\;
Is that possible or was it just my adrenalin?

Your imagination. The theoretical limit for completely static "friction" based acceleration to 60 MPH (88 feet per second)&nbsp\\;is 2.8 seconds. And to achieve that your entire weight would have to be on the rear wheel and and the tire would have to be at the edge of it's static friction before breaking loose and spinning. The only way to accelerate faster would be to overaccelerate the tire in the dynamic friction range, which would be a few thousand horsepower and a wasted tire, or to increase the coefficient of friction by doing an alcohol burnout (or similar). In addition, the rotational torque around your center of mass during this time would probably flip you right over without a roll bar.

realistically I think we get 0 to 60 in about 7 or 8 seconds,but I have never actually counted! I was beside a softail today and had to hold back not to pass the guy,he may have been riding slow for al I know ,but I was with him through 4 or 5 traffic lights,three of them red and then onto the freeway I tried to ghost his sppeed but it was jst too slow gear fo gear I&nbsp\\; was much faster period.

This site says a Sportster is 5.37 seconds. Sportsters are reputed to be a bit quicker off the line than Dynas.
