This is not a question specific to Dyna owners but since we're all in the same family 06 (St.Bob) I figured I post here first. Where do people buy the cool looking low rise ( NO mushroom head) helmets, that are DOT approved. I live in North Carolina and we must wear DOT helmets here at all times. I can't find a skid lid, or true skull cap, or turtle shell, anywhere. I would love to find a good looking german style infantry helmet or a Paul Sr style one that is DOT. I don't like wearing a full face because they do cut out your peripheral vision. Put one on and have a friend stand beside/behind you... off to on= now you see him now you don't.
The best DOT or non-DOT helmet I've seen is the Head Trip helmet from ACC. Their website is www.carbonfiberhelmets.com. They make the lowest profile DOT I've seen to date by far. I purchased the non-DOT jockey style. The salesman I talked to said the non-DOT's pass all the DOT tests but the pierce test, which it barely fails due to the thinner liner. All other non-DOT helmets I've seen can't even come close to DOT standards. They are spendy but with the carbon/kevlar blend and each helmet being made by hand you can't go wrong. I know they will be coming out with a DOT jockey style in the next month or two. Customer service is excellent! Check them out...I love mine.
jp cycles sell the best lowest profile dot approved skull cap ever. its the nxt lightweight kevlar helmate. its about $140. i have one. you measure your head w/a tape meaure. if your close in size take the one size down. it should be a little tight, but itll break in nice. i highly recommend it!
thanks for the info guys. tb2377, i think I emailed you about your accent lights, turns out the company is an hour from my house. I remembered your name from the email, quite unique, when I looked at American Iron (right magazine?) for reader's rides. When I pose for my pic to send to the magazine I think I'll do the front double biceps.
I have the DOT Maltese Shorty Motorcycle Helmet like from Iron Horse and while it is not as big as some I have seen...it is not low profile either. The price is right though.
Next time I go to Raleigh ( the place is just north of there) I'm going to check out their store. Also Ray Price Harley Davidson is there which is one of the premier dealers in this area, and Ray Price has a separate used parts warehouse where they supposedly have different helmets like I want. Those carbon fiber ones are cool, but $200? I'm having a hard enough time just finding a leather jacket to fit in the sleeves.
