I'm considering the purchase of a TFI for my Street Bob. The money, the install, and the simplicity all work for me. The FAQs on the Dobeckperformance site say the TFI is designed to operate with the stock ECM settings. I've already installed the HD download. Without doing alot of speculative "tuning", will the TFI work for me? Should I look to the PCIII instead?
On the TFI website there is a guy who is also running it on a bob with similar set up as you. I would ask him. He also got the bike dyno tuned. It all depends on the guy doing the tune ( if it will work for you)
The download does not cause any problems at all, there are simply lower settings on the TFI to compensate for the download. I have a stage 2 download on my 95 and running a TFI and it works well. The difference without the download only amounts to MORE adjustability than without it. The unit comes with recommended settings for all stages of engines also. You'll find info on this in the fuel injection section of the DIY. The new bikes use a different unit that does not have the 4 potentiometers but uses a system of LED's https://www.hdforums.com/forumid_247/tt.htm
Ah...so they have some recommended settings that include the D/L? That's what I should've asked, I guess. If not, anyone here running a TFI with SE slipons, SE A/C and the remap on your 06? What's your settings?

I think you can find some set up help here, don't know if they have the recommended settings for various stages, but the toll free number is in there also... https://www.hdforums.com/m_270329/tm.htm
Whiffleboy, Let me jump in on here cause I can help out.
I have the same setup on my '06. SEII's, Stage I download, S/E air cleaner kit with K&N. Use the 2000 RPM method of tuning. This is the RPM/load that the lean condition is most apparent on the 06 bikes. Increase the green setting just enough until this condition is eliminated. No more, no less. Match the yellow setting to the green. Mine is at 1.5 green, 1.5 yellow, 2 red and 6 red/blue. It's conservative but eliminates bugs in the stock map, maintains gas milage and gives a strong running experience.
I had to take the TFI off my bike for its 1000 mile service and have not had the time to put it back on. The difference is apparent but the bike don't run 'bad' at all with the stage one flash. At Daytona, I did get my bike (without the TFI installed) dynoed by rollingthunder and the torque and horsepower curves was smooth with no dips or flatspots. With the TFI, I bet I would have picked up 3 foot pounds and 2-3 horses.
In the next few weeks, I might go and get a sert anyway so I can play around with timing and the real time diagnostic logging features and have some more fun tuning the bike. JamieWG is spearheading this effort on the 06 closed loop bikes and the results are promising. For a simple install and tune, I can highly recommend the TFI unit.
I agree with the above. I have the RevTech DFO which is the same thing I believe. Though my Road King ran great with just the download I had popping while shifting. I looked at my spark plugs and they were very white which is not good. After installing the DFO/TFI I was amazed at the difference. Smooth take off, no popping, more power and the spark plugs are a nice brownish color, which is good.
At $199 including the harness, it seems like such a bargain. My inclination to buy one was based on the ease of use, i.e. using the recommended settings without having to adjust anything. I'm willing to try tweaking it, but, I don't want to do any damage to the bike through ignorance. Having those base numbers you presented should help. I just didn't want to go in blind with recommended settings that were way off the mark from the get-go with me trying to haphazardly get them right.
I may seriously pick one up now. I hear their support is outstanding.
One caveat, though, is that I have no Tach...it's a Street Bob.
Have you seen the install video from Dobeck Performance's website? They make it look fairly simple. Found this link in the forum's DIY section. Good video.
