My gas mileage sucks....bad. Any thoughts?
 \\;
Couple thoughts\\;
 \\;
I put in some fuel injector cleaner, we'll see
 \\;
yes, I do ride short distances...its only 6 miles to work and some short trips to lunch, etc
 \\;
air pressure is okay, but obviously I need to keep an eye on it
 \\;
I did check the injectors and they are in fact the 25 degree ones....good suggestion though!!
 \\;
Here's another good one for you conspiracy theorists. While I was out running around the freeway, I noticed a couple mile markers. So, i thought I would check my odometer for accuracy...seems to be consistently a skosh short of a mile on each mile. So, I'm basically indicated lower mileage than actual...that would certainly account for my mileage being lower.
 \\;
Has anyone heard of odometers being messed up like that?
I started using the lowest octane rating I could find, 87, and my gas milage increased. I am now getting 42 city and 57 Highway. I do not ride like I stole it, I ride at or near the posted speed limit. Once on a ride with a group of South Florida riders from this site two of use using 87 octane got 60 MPG for the over 200 mile ride.
Use the lowest octane you can without pinging and your bike or car will burn all the gas. When running higher octane than you need your motor will not burn all of the gas that passes through the combustion chamber. That equals lower gas milage.
Try it, if you hear pinging go up to the next higher octane rating.
Don't buy into the dealer hype about hi octane, google the info about octane and you'll see what I'm talking about.
man, I really appreciate the number of replies to this thread. You guys haven't missed anything!

your bike is not even warmed up at 6 miles... good chance you are constantly riding with an enriched fuel supply creating very poor fuel economy....I doubt it is for the full 6 miles but probably for the even shorter trips and a good portion of the 6 mile trips.
not to mention if your dealer set your idle at 1200rpm..or on the high side..
