Hi all- first time Harley owner , and my first post.
 \\;
Just bought a brand new 2008 FXD all black, added a sundowner 2 up seat and siisy bar. I absolutly love it and ride every chance I get.
 \\;
I \\;have almost 500 miles on it and just noticed a "whinning" type noise coming from the back, deff not an engine noise. Happens after the bike gets warm and seems worse \\;around 20 to 30 mph or I just cant hear it when going faster.
I plan on putting on some pipes (any recomendations) and I know that will help eliminate the noise but I would like \\; but I dont think it supposed to be making this noise (not sure if I described \\;the noise well enough) \\; \\; \\; \\; \\;
Plan on going to the dealer but dont want the run around as this is my only transportation and need the bike to go to work.
 \\;
thanks!
Does it sounds like it is coming from the rear brake caliper? \\; Does it stop when you apply the rear brake? \\; Could be you just need to let the pads wear down a little bit being a brand new bike.
Not really sure, I will check that better on my ride home from work. It doesnt make any noise when its not moving...if that helps.
 \\;
Thanks for the idea.
Check the belt tension. I had this same noise, a whirring sound when going slow and it seemed to get worse when it was warm out or after a long ride. Thought it was my brakes. Turns out the belt was too tight, after adjusting the belt a hair it went away.

It's easy to check, just start out going slow until you hear the noise steadily. \\; When you hear it, lightly apply the rear brake and see if it immediately goes away. \\; If it does, it's your brake \\;disc scrubbing the pads. \\; That should go away \\;after some mileage. \\; If it doesn't, \\;you \\;should get it checked. \\; If that \\;turns out not to be it, it may be the drive belt. \\; If you aren't comfortable adjusting that, you'll want to take it back to the dealer. \\;
 \\;HI bring it back to the dealer they should have a stand to put it on maybe they can hear it . Or have a friend ride along side of you to lessen .
I got the same thing or should say HAD .Its the belt making the noise .try alittle armoral on the belt .Dont spray it all just wipe it on and you will stop that noise .I used w-d 40 on mine then my son who works for harley said armoral is better
 \\;
 \\;I would suspect the drive belt, either it's being "burnished in" seating itself or a tad tight. When the noise is heard, roll off the throttle and pull in the clutch if the noise is still there It's a no load condition, also try the rear brake just drag, hold the pedal down a little, enough to make shoe contact to the rotor, like said previously pads are still seating.
Thanks! much appreciated...I will let you know how I made out.
 \\;\\\\\\; Any advice on pipes?
How much money do you have to spend? You can go from $150.00 slipons to complete systems around $600.00 or so. I have the Vance and Hines HS slipons with the quiet baffles, Arlen Ness big sucker, and Fuelpak. Lownblue has the Reinhart 2-1 and sounded really cool but also $$.
