Any Street Bob owners install a handlebar tach? \\; Please post some pics, tryin to get some ideas. \\; Also if anyone has any pics of the dash removed from a street bob and wideglide, could you post those as well. \\; I'm looking into the possability of installing a wideglide dash on a Bob.
there was a handlebar tach thread just a few days ago (cobra tach I think) looked good but pricey - you should be able to find it.
hd makes some as well.
wideglides and bobs have different size speedometers, and the dash mount holes are at different locations, the lamp cluster is also different.
the top plate is different, the tank hole is different. maybe not impossible.
i'm trying to go the other way - st bob dash on a wide glide tank, not 100% sure about it yet.
i know the dash mount holes are different, i figured i could make a crossover plate to make that work. \\; Do you know if the overall length of the dash is the same (would it mount the same at the base of the tank)? \\; I'm ok with the speedo being a different size because i wanted to get the spun alum. face speedo/tach. \\; Would you happen to know if the wiring for the speedo is the same for the two bikes? \\; I should be able to get the lamp cluster to work with little problems i would think.
I will be better able to answer your length question in a day or two as i don't have all parts yet.
I don't have a service manual for your bike - if you have one it will indicate wiring for both speedos and clusters.
i can't imagine the wiring would be too bad, and will likely just work provided the plugs on the speedo are the same.
when i get all my parts together - i'll pm you regarding the length.
okay, so i went to the stealer to look at the dashs', and i found a new direction to go in. \\; They had a screamin' eagle Dyna on display and it appears as the dash for that will fit my bike. \\; I'm waiting for a call from the parts guy there (not sure he will actually get back to me) to let me know if it will work. \\; But it has a similar look to the SB dash, the bolts appear to be in the same location as the SB, the instrument cluster appears to be the same, and the ignition is in the dash, so i can move that as well. \\; It had a spun alum. 4" speedo an 4" handlebar tach \\;on it (which \\;are supposed to be for 04 - 06 XL's only), so i would assume it could be used on my bike. \\; Then i can mount the tach to the handlebars. \\; Does anyone know the part# for the screamin' eagle dash, and ignition switch for that dash? \\; Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if this would meet your needs but I used the HD 1.5" shift indicator (tach with a shift light) and a HD bracket to mount it made for a softtail. I'm not sure HD still makes the bracket - I was told it was a discontinued item but the dealer was able to order one. See pics.
