if I were to change out fuel caps on my street B how does one remove the fuel gauge cap with out screwing up Im guessing theres a wire connection beneath it, want to change them out and put the LED gauge on ,any thoughts?
Just give it a short twist and pull on it. Slowly would be good. Do you have the new gauge yet? I know it comes with some instructions as I have done the install and it was simple. You won't have any problems. Just jump in.
OJ, I don't have the directions anymore but, I thought I would let you know that this is the easiest or one of the easiest mods that you can make to your ride. I recall having to cut two wires and hook them back together with the new gauge. Go for it, mine looks great and I am glad I made the change.
The gage is just a slip fit, no threads etc. You can pull up on it and it wil come out.
The wires go thru a tube in tthe bottom of the tank and there is a connector on the end.
you must remove the wires from the connector to pull the wires thru the tube.
It is very easy to do with a small pin or something pointy. The instructions will tell you
where to depress a tab on the wiring connector to get the wire out of the connector.
I have to agree, this is an extremely simple upgrade for the bike. I have an '05 so I don't know about the fitment problem, although I don't know why it would be any different. Basically you disconnect the harness which is hidden up under your tank, disconnect the clip that connects the wires to the harnes, feed it through the tube and then work in reverse with the new wires and such. It can be a pita to get the clip off the ends of the wires but they go back in easily. In terms of accuracy, it appears to be pretty accurate. They light up blue until you get to the last one (empty tank) which will shine red and then start blinking once it is really low.
