I'm just shy of 5k on the clock on my 08 Street Bob and I'm averaging 44.5 mpg overall. It's mostly stock with V&H slipons and XiED enricheners plus it's got bags, shield and a fork bag which I'm sure cut down the mileage a bit. A bit like pushing a brick. My riding is about half twisties (most of West Virginia) and half interstate with a 70mph limit.

Was hoping I would be getting at least 45 with this bike!

48-50 is my average. No windshield either, maybe that helps.

I see from most of the pictures posted show that at a minimum most of you have done at least a stage 1 mod, i.e. different exhaust different air filter and remapped, all of this puts more gas into the cylinders with each stroke, I just wanted to get a good base on a stock standard bike before i started to do my upgrades, then I have something to compare against, is the upgrade and additional power worth it if I am not going to cruise at any different speeds, I would like a bit more noise though,

I usually average around 46-48. Went on some long rides last week in the hills and only got 40, but the view made up for it.

That seems like harsh riding for a break-in period. I've heard various stories, what's the real deal on what to do during break-in? I took it easy during my first 1000 and have only checked 3 tanks so far. I'm getting between 48 and 52 mph on an 07 stock wide glide.

You should ride it during the breakin period like you will normally ride , otherwise you will stress the motor breaking it in like a baby then pounding it afterwards. That is the way it has always been explained to me and the way I have always treated em.
