Default Potential buyer

I have been thinking about buying a new Harley, either a Dyna Super Glide Custom or a Fat Bob. A black CVO Fat Bob looks fantastic, but I don’t want to put that much money in one. It looks like the 2008 used models are selling above the factory suggested retail price of the new 2009 models. Do the dealers sell the Harleys above factory suggested price? Anyway, which one do you guys think would be the better Harley? I don’t like the handle bars and mounts on the Fat Bob, and I do not like the rear fender on the Super Glide Custom.

so...

Personally, I would go with a fat bob. Although the custom is nice, I just prefer the look of the bob. But, to each his own. Test ride them both before you make any serious decisions and you'll be good to go! Good luck.

Neither is better, they are just different looks. Which one would be easier to write the check for each month?
The dealers around here sell for MSRP, but the remaining 08s should be discounted now that the 09s are starting to hit the showroom.

Mikie, I agree with Redbeard. I looked at both before I bought my 08 Custom. I almost pulled the trigger on the Fat Bob just because I liked the looks. What ultimately made me go with the Custom was a combination of the price and the larger variety of things that were available for the Custom. This is changing somewhat, but I don't think that variety of add on parts for the FB will ever catch up with those of the Custom. If it's only a question of replacing the fender, pay the extra money to have that replaced when you buy it. Or, take the extra money and buy another fender from Zanotti's if you're inclined to do the work yourself. Regardless of your choice, you'll love the Dyna. Good luck!

While that black/fire quartz 09 Fat Bob CVO is absolutely smokin', I'd go with a standard model FB or Custom...to me the CVO is someone else's idea of what my bike should look like...the one thing I probably wouldn't eventually swap would be the paint. I'd rather save on the initial purchase and put the saved cash into parts I like. Test ride both and see which you prefer in terms of looks and handling...then mod the hell out of it.

Well Mikie, I think you need to buy a Honda Super 90 and be done with it.

I can’t believe it. I joined this site with user name jmwilson some time ago. When I tried to join the site a few days ago I saw someone already had the user name I wanted. Rats! You guys need to just call me knucklehead.

Anyway, I went to the Harley Dealer in Hot Springs last week. I have decided, so far, to get a Dyna Fat Bob, although I think the Softails look fantistic. The bikes look so much better on the dealer show room than the photos. The Fat Bob handle bars look good.
I found out I have to get a motor cycle drivers license. My son and I are going to take a two day safety driving course at the Harley shop. Then, we are going to Cabot Arkansas and rent two Harleys. I talked to them today, and they said they are in the process of buying some 2009 models. I am going to try to rent a Softail and a Fat Bob.
What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting out of these 2008 or 2009 Harleys? I have heard anywhere from 30 to 58 MPG.

Thanks guys for the advice and replies.

Moderators, I got two users names by mistake. If you remove one user name, please delete the Mikie account. Sorry about that.
