Default forward controls and stuff?

Whats up guys? I know I've been asking alot of newbie questions and I dont even own a harley yet but Im getting close. I talked the my salesman saturday and he is gonna try to find me a 09 superglide custom at another dealer and trade for it. I told him I would stop in today and see what he came up with. I asked about forward controls and he told me 600 installed and they were hd brand. Is this a good price or is it high? Are they hard to install? Also I am looking at the v&h slipons are they pretty simple to install, I put a set on my sportbike several years ago with no problem. Also are these the best slipons for the money or what do you recomend? Sorry for all the stupid questions but I know Ill get good answers from you guys this forum is great!

I'd left my center controls and installed highway pegs. Cheaper and more practical.
With forward controls you are forced to use those like it or not.
With highway pegs I can use my center controls in city or winding roads, where they give better control, and to rest my legs in long highway trips. You can also learn to use the shift pedal and rear brake with your heels with little practice, without moving your feet from the highway pegs, so you actually have forward controls as well as center ones.
For slipons, if you are not worried about homologation, you can try the Khrome Werks. They work really well on my Superglide Custom, and give a great sound, like drag pipes but not as loud. You only have to get the plug for the active exhaust control unit as well, or you'll get an error on the engine control unit.

i bought my hd forwards on ebay at a discounted price. had the dealer install them at my 1k service, saved on a little labor with this as they have to drop the oil and what have you. i dont think i paid over 100 bucks more for my service and the forwards install.

as for slip on you need to check out "RUSH". my buddy just got a 07 nightster and they have rush slip on on it, and WOW... they sound just as good as my v&h's. if i were going to buy slip on i would for sure use rush. fuelmotousa.com sells rush i believe, may want to shop around for best prices. also easternperformance may sell them, they are a forum sponsor. you should be able to install the slip on with no problem.

I had mid controls on every bike I ever had...........now I have forward controls on my Fat Bob. Wasn't sure before I picked the bike up in Wyoming. Had never ridden with forward controls................would not go back to mid controls for anything. I don't have any control issues with my forward controls!!!

I had my dealer install forwards in the price to cinch the deal. Beings I bought my '08FXDC in December they were willing to close. I used the Rush slip- ons with 1.75 baffles. Just loud enough for me to hear my engine and things around me but sound great when getting it on! Only forward controls since '65 ~ Nels

There are 2 mainstream options for forward controls, HD brand and Kuryakyn. HD's are a bit more labor intensive to install so make sure you are comfortable with what is required if you intend to install them yourself. Kury's can be bought NIB online for $300 and the install is much easier - a sure DIY job. If you aren't sure you want forwards, you can try highway pegs first. I did and it was 2 weeks before I had forwards and I'll never go back to mid controls. As for the mufflers, there are many different options and most all of them are very easy to install yourself.

I have an '07 StreeBob. When I bought it I was savy enought to negotiate $2000 of accesories included in the MSRP. All those extras a asked for I wanted in a box so I could save on the labor. No problem with the forward controls, very straight forward EXCEPT for the old shifter shaft that stick through the case. I opted to have the stealer remove it during the 1000 mile service.
I'm at my 5K service now & after that the only reason I'll need the dealer for it warantee items. Buy the book & learn all you can!

If you get the Harley kit that provides a cap for the rod sticking out of the primary like the Kury kit, it's very easy to do. I installed mine in about an hour. You'll pay more for the Kury, which is a little beefier construction. A common misconseption is with the Harley kit, you have to remove the primary. Harley makes a kit where you do have to do this, if you do not want to see the capped rod sticking thru.

Go with the Kuryakyn Controls. They are sturdy, the finish is real nice, and they are very easy to install. Check out D&D's slip on exhaust. My local dealer turned me on to them and I love them. They too are very easy to install.
