Default Will scuffed chrome rust?

I'm talking about lightly dulled chrome (w/ Scotchbright or 3-M green pad), not course sanded. I like the look of that finish on certain parts, but I don't know if it will hold up.

I think all chrome will rust if not properly cleaned and waxed. As long as your not taking it down to bare metal I'd think you'd be fine.

Chrome sits on top of metal. Chrome doesn't rust. Metal does. If the chrome finish thins, for whatever reason, and the metal is exposed, rust will appear. Thinning chrome by scuffing it thins this finish, makes metal that much closer to the elements, and increases the likelihood of rust.

That's pretty non-commital, JP- I was looking for reassurance. Actually, I hoped that someone would pipe up that had done it without a problem. I have a hard time believing rust won't start if I do the scotchbrite thing. I guess I'll give it a try and just paint the part if it goes bad. I've been considering painting it anyway.

If it's metal it will rust.... but if it's aluminum it wont.

Speaking og scuffed crom I was riding my dyna the other day and gave it some gas and all of a sudden got really load. Thought I lost a baffle from my SEII slip-ons I looked down and there were none.

Any on know how to get road rash out my chrome? Do I need to get them re-chromed or by new one's

Got a buddy whos done his pipes and a few other parts- exile style. Looks pretty cool. My understanding is that your just scuffing the chrome and the whole chroming process puts down 3 layers. So if your just scuffing it your fine. Your not gunna be sanding it down to bare metal anyway. He enquired about needing to seal or coat it after he did it and was told no. So, take for what its worth.

Well, I guess that pretty well covers the entire range of possible answers. I guess I'll give it a go and paint it later if rust shows up. Thanks for the responses...we'll see what happens...
