I've owned bikes for years, but for some reason I'm finding it tough to get the bug "splatters" and misc. road dirt off the wrinkle black of my engine. Just wondering if I'm missing out on a secret that you guys have to get the motor good and clean. Is there something other than a good ole' bucket of armorall wash and a rag that works better for removing the bug stains? Any input would be appreciated....
I put towels and rags soaked with clean water over all the bug surfaces for about 30 minutes before I clean them. Softens them up and I can wipe it down with micro-fiber rags. S100 works great on the black wrinkle. I had a bottle of Maguiers that worked great, but I forgot which product it was.
S100 works really well, but I have also found a product that I have only found at the Harley dealer that works well. The name is Bike Brite it is in a spray bottle, just spray it on let it set for about a minute and spray off with water. I would wet bike first. Here is the web site www.bikebrite.com
Good luck.
Do you guys spray all over the engine or do you "apply/spray" it carefully over parts of the engine a little at a time ? One guy was just telling me to just spray the motor with simple green, let it soak, then spray off with a hose (He also told me to use the same technique to clean the wheels/rims.). Doe that sound right ? Is it actually OK to wash your bike like a car. I was always uncomfortable with that idea. I was always worried about water getting into the electronics/wiring. Also, who makes this S100 ? Sorry for the stupid questions but I honestly never really washed/detailed my bike before. I would wipe down/clean up a little after each ride or when I got my bike serviced, they would wash the bike for me. Basically, I've just been a lazy azz to do it myself . Thanks in advance.

you can wash like a car... don't spray hard at your electronics though.
IMHO simple green sux... replace with shout stain remover in the spray bottle...the difference is night and day...
s100 is the company can be found at your H-D dealer more than likely...their site http://www.s100.com/find.htm
pig spit is supposed to be awesome as well for engine.
