Default Handlebar Internal Wiring

Anybody out there drill their stock apes and internal wire it?? Is it possible and how hard is it?? I've read some stuff on the forum, but I want to see how involved this is.

I did it on 1 " apes on my wideglide. Wasn't hard at all. Here's a post where I expained how I did it. I'm sure it would be a lot easier with 1 1/4" bars but you can do it with 1"

I've done it. It's a piece of cake. Just drill a 3/8" hole in the handlebar dimples near the top of the dimple and 2 or three close together in the center where the wires will come out. Grind the center holes to make one long slot. Be sure to remove all burrs before running wired.

Shep or JV,
If I'm using the stock bars, I shouldn't have to mess with the lenght of the wiring, right?

Anybody got any good after photos, so I can see the final result.

Thinking about doing this will a set of bars that aren't dimpled. Does that make it much more difficult? Anyone else try it on a similar set?

Angry Monkey I cut my wires and re soldered them in the switch housings so I extended the wires just to make it easier to work with since I had to splice them anyway. If your going to take everything apart and unhook everything without cutting the wires and soldering I would say you wouldn't have to extend them. I'll take a pic of the finished product and post it in a few mins.
Phreak I don't see why it would be any harder.

I'm a little hesitant to cut the wires since I'm trying to stick with the stock bars.. Thanks for getting the pic.

It's up to you a lot of people swear by cutting them and resolding and just as many refuse to cut them if they don't have to. I cut them just because I thought it would be just as good but quicker to do it that way. I haven't had any trouble. Anyway here are a few pics let me know if you want to see anymore.

These are aftermarket bars that were on the bike when I bought it used. He just had the wires zip tied to the bars.
