Default How difficult is a hand grip change?

The grips that came on my SG and getting worn and I really don't like them. How difficult is it to change grips? I heard somewhere that they are difficult to remove and a pain the put new ones on. What am I in for?

I just did mine the other day and its pretty easy. Dropping the little ferrules for the throttle is the only pain. You will drop them so make sure you have a clean area away from a drain lol

Got home with them at 12 made lunch and ate while I read the instructions and found the pages in sevice manual and had them both on by 12:45.

Are the stock ones glued on? That's what I had heard somewhere.

Left one is glued on but once I took the hand controls off I was able to break the glue free by twisting it and slide the old grip off. Some have to cut it off depending on how much glue.

Changed mine on my FXD a couple days ago, was easy except for the pre mentioned ferrules. As a reminder make sure you place a 1/8" spacer between the brake lever and the housing. Pull the lever like normal and place the spacer in the gap created and release the lever. This will prevent possible damage to the hydraulic master cylinder if the piston travels past the lever when the housing is removed.

I put the HD Diamond Plate ones since they match my pegs. Better than stock as far as comfort but probally better options.

When I changed mine I put a white sheet under the right grip, those little ferrels bounce like a mo fo when you drop them, and you will drop them, good luck

Recently purchased HD grips for my bike. The instruction with the grips refer you to the service manual. Instead I found instructions on the Kuryakyn web site. They were spot on even with the HD grips. Took about 30 minutes for the whole change. Here is the link for the instructions: http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/in...-24HD-0107.pdf
