Default Dyna wide tire kit

I know there is many posts about this. I searched and searched came up with way to much garbage not pertaining to the wide tire kit... Man i wish the old search function was still working.

But any way. I saw a picture of the dyna wide kit. And the only thing in the pic is the tire and the new inner fender bolt plates. Is that all that comes in the kit seriously???

nope you only need the tire... in some cases you may have to shave down your turn signal stalks a bit but rare... you only need the tire

I see... Since i have my turn signals relocated to the license plate this sounds like it would be a non-issue. But i also have the quick detach sideplates... Does that matter?

It does matter. The quick detach sideplates are good to go for the wide tire kit. Sounds like you are ready for the tire. I have the quick detach for the passenger backrest and all I needed to do was mount the tire. Just make sure you don't have any errant wires up under your fender, but if you relocated to the rear you should be way good. I ordered just the tire from Chicago HD for about $165.

Thats a really good question. If i could i would like to add some. Pardon my ignorance heh. Im assuming the kit is for the rear tire. Would the kit fill in the gap on the fender better than lowering the bike? Does it give a rougher ride?

side plates do not matter at all... you are fine even without the quick detach you woudl be fine... wide tire takes your from a 160 to a 180, not a higher side wall.. does not fill the gap you are talking about Giz, it is a wider (fatter) tire here is a pic of it on the bike

just on the rim

Here's the deal - you are correct, that's all the "kit" is. It is designed to secure the wiring under your fender from getting rubbed by the wider tire. If you are satisfied that the wires are not an issue for your setup, whatever the reason, then you only need to buy the tire. Problem is, most dealers will not install the tire on your bike if you don't buy the kit. I went to an Indy shop, had him order the tire and install it. I've been running it now for a few months with no issues. I have the detachable sideplate kit and made sure my wires weren't an issue. You pretty much have to decide for yourself though as nobody is going to tell you they are okay and put themselves in a situation to cover you if there is an issue later on. If you want a real life example of the differences in the stock vs. wide tire, I have a side by side pic in my gallery.

Dunlop says my tire is a 160/70b17... So would this new tire be a 180/70b17, if so i dont get any results for such a tire!
