Hey all got back from Afghanistan last month, and then did a change of station to Ft Bliss at El Paso, TX. Started riding again after doing a safety refresher and just noticed this squeeking noise coming from the rear of my panty dropper. She is an 08 anniversary model I had in storage for 10 months. She runs great, but the squeeking noise is driving me nuts, especially around town. I commute about 45 miles one way and just started hearing it. Anyone have any ideas what may be the cause ? I have checked and re-checked and cannot figure it out.
Also if I have read right, I can install the Xied along with my 2.0 rush slip-ons and change out the A/C filter without any problems? Is this just the filter, or can I change the whole AC assembly for a different look and not have any issues? Thanks for any feedback.
I can't help you with the Xied question, sorry.
The major source of squeaks from the rear wheel these days are the belt/pulleys/wheel out of adjustment/alignment or dirty, or the disc brake pads dragging on the rotor (which could be because the wheel is out of alignment). Aren't you still under warranty? If you are, have the dealership address the problem. An obnoxious squeak should not be considered "normal" so don't let 'em tell you it is. Those guys deal with this kind of stuff a lot so it should just take 'em a few minutes to fix you up.
Another thought is that the rotor rusted while not in use. Was it rusty when you took it out of storage? You could try cleaning up the rotor and pads with scotchbrite...or trash those lousy factory pads for Lyndall Z plus pads. Maybe the newer bikes have better pads now, I don't know, but the pads that were factory stock in the '03 calipers I used on my bike left a lot to be desired.
American Iron Magazine is saying that the 08's ECM's will self-calibrate after 15 minutes or so. This is with exhaust and air cleaner mods, just repeating what I read. The squeeking, like earlier said, could be a drive belt reseating in the pulleys after a long down time or brake pads dragging, again due to the down time. Let dealers take a look and let them know how long it sat, at least get the concern on file. I believe you can get your warranty extended because you were deployed. Welcome Home and thanks for serving.
