Default flush mount taillight?

Hey fellow HD owners, I was wondering if anyone has cut their rear fender and flush mounted there taillight to give the rear fender a clean look? I am thinking about this on a 06 low rider and was looking for some of your expert opinions on it. Also where would a guy search to find out if side mounting a license plate is legal in a particular state? State laws are pretty lengthy and hard to read unless your a lawyer I guess. Thanks, mojo

Mojo,

What state are you from? Here in Illinois, I believe that you can have a side mounted plate, but it still has to be in a horizontal postion.

hey 16over, I live in Iowa and I have seen some side mount plates around but not sure there legal? As my luck goes if I tried it and it wasn't legal I would find out real quick. I guess I am not even sure if replacing the rear light with a flush mount light is legal, It would'nt sit exactly vertical like original equipment.....just trying to give the rear fender a cleaner look so any suggestions/help is appreciated.

In the new JP catalog there is a flush mount led with built in turn signals that fits in the stock hole and covers up the 3 license plate holes. Its made by perse and its close to $400. Really nice but really expensive! So with this you would have to run a sidemount plate.

MOJO,
I went with the Kuryakyn low profile smoked on my bob, really cleans up the rear fender. Easy install and you don't have the big red nub..

I really like the Kuryakyn smoked laydown LED taillight too. It ain't flush, but it is much smoother than the stocker. Got their side tag mount too.

When I replaced my rear fender I did away with everything on the fender. My rear turn signals act as brake lights - running lights - turn signals. I changed out my signals to a 35 watt halogen system from Adjure....they are bright bright bright.

I also went with a derby cover sidemount license plate holder
