Just installed an S&S gear drive and 37G Andrews cams in my Dyna. She is now really peppy and believe it or not, my gas mileage is up. HOWEVER, the top end now makes a lot of noise. I did not think going from a .44 to a .510 lift would cause such a stir.
Thoughts as to how I might calm her down a bit ?? Thanks in advance for your input.
Use Lucas oil and the oil stabilizer. It will quiet it down some. Gear drive cams have a noise all their own and Harley top ends are loud as well. Louder pipes also help.
Thx for taking the time to reply dyna rider. I've been running Amsoil synth for a couple of years but have never tried an oil stabilizer. The noise sounds like either the rockers or valves or both and maybe I'm just not used to it yet. I run drag pipes so louder pipes are not an option.
If the sound will not potentially lead to engine damage and is what it is, I can live with it. However, I've read others comment that they did not experience any appreciable increase in engine chatter. The sound coming from the gear drive is minimal relative to the chatter up top.
Lucas oil stabilizer is crap will only water down the additive package in your amsoil. If you want thicker viscosity oil then just get a 20w60 like redline. You may want to install a baisley 30lb relief spring in your oil pressure bypass valve. That will increase your oil pressure. But I would try the redline 20w60 oil first. Make sure your pusrods ae adjusted correctly as well.
I am also leaning on the pushrods might be a little out of adjust for what you are running, I would also check to see if your pushrods aren't rubbing the upper tubes.
