Default accutronix 49mm +3 triple trees

Hi! I am the proud owner of a stock 2008 FXDC (105 anniversary) and I am considering purchasing the elite smooth 49mm +3 triple trees from accutronix (and street slammer bars), as I would like a bit more aggressive look but without changing too much the geometry of the bike. Has anyone done the conversion? Do you have pics? Can you please tell me what other parts I would need to purchase, if any (e.g., would I need extended fork tubes?)? Also, would it be better to also lower the bike to complete the look? I understand very little about mechanics so extended answers would be appreciated

Default Accutronix

I have been looking at that also and have posted about it before. I did not try to email them to see if they had any after photos. I assume you were looking at the WG kit and if you make the move please post pics.

Hi Roadman56, will do! I was looking to get the +3 rake, which I think they call mid-glide. Another member pointed me to 2007FXDC's bike. The look I try to achieve is very similar and he does not seem to have made any changes in rake. Maybe I will first try to do some similar changes (e.g., lower suspension, etc.) and see whether I am happy with the results. If I end up going down the +3 route I will post pics.

Default Raked Trees

I have the 5 degree Accutronix trees on mine. It does lower the bike a little. If you put lowering springs in the forks and lowering shocks in the rear it will look great but you will not be able to turn a corner without scraping something. So go easy. I have riding buddy who put the 5 degree trees on with 2 inch over fork tubes and not shocks on the rear. It looked great but had a really bad high speed wobble, a tank slapper. Anyway the 2 over tubes went away fast.

Hi dyna rider and thanks for your reply. What's the suggestion? How about installing the 3 degree Accutronix trees and keep everything else stock? Or, how about installing the 3 degrees Accutronix and lowering a bit the rear suspension (say using 12'' progressives) to keep things balanced (I am very naive about bike mechanics but here is my thinking: installing the triple trees should lower the front end a bit so to keep things balanced one should lower the rear of the bike a bit). Or is the suggestion to forget about looks and keep everything stock?

PS. Dyna rider, could you also please post a pic of your bike where one can see the front end to get an idea what the 5 degree trees do to the looks of the bike? I could not find such a pic in your photo gallery. Roadman56 would also appreciate this. Thanks!

Default Triple Trees

Buscha- Will post pics tomorrow. Do one change at a time to your bikes geometry. That way you can tell exactly what each change does to the handling. I still have the 12" stock shocks on my bike. I want to replace them, but only with better not shorter shocks. The 3 degree trees will lower your bike but not much. All the Accutronix parts seem to be well made and beautifully chromed. If you want to ride lots of twisty roads, don't lower the bike very much. It can grab the asphalt and throw your butt off quickly. Pics tomorrow.

You can check out my photo gallery, not exactly what your looking for but might give you an idea what it may look like. I'm using 2 degree trees from a Wide Glide with my original forks and 12" Low Profile Touring air shocks.

dyna rider- doing one mod at a time seems like a great suggestion to me. I look forward to seeing the pics. Thanks again!!!

WS6, your bike looks stunning!!! Are these the parts I would need to make the transformation (copied from your gallery)?

*H.D. 2006 Wide Glide 21" front wheel (New take off from eBay)
*H.D. 2006 Wide Glide triple clamp upper P/N 46700-06
*H.D. 2006 Wide Glide triple clamp lower P/N 46386-06
*H.D. 2006 Wide Glide axle P/N 40923-06
*H.D. 2006 Wide Glide spacer right P/N 40926-06
*H.D. 2006 Wide Glide spacer left P/N 40927-06
*H.D. 2007 Low Profile Touring Shocks P/N 54631-02B

I am very naive about mechancs etc. so excuse my next question. Do two triple clamps essentially give you a triple tree? Also I could not find some parts in the 08 catalogue (e.g., the triple clamps). But I guess I could always ask my harley dealer. Another thing. You have a 21 wheel. If I do the changes you suggest (WG triple clamps) but keep the standard wheel, does this mean that the bike would sit much lower in the front than your bike (and because of that maybe I should think twice about lowering the rear suspension?)? I guess I could always follow dyna rider's suggestion and do 1 thing at a time. I love the looks of the deuce headlamp on your bike. You say that you used a sportster custom mount. Did you have to do any mods to make things fit? Many thanks again for the advice!
