Adjusted the drive belt on a new bike? At about what mileage and how long between(mileage) are you adjusting? I've felt to many bikes on the dealer floor that range from almost no free play, to a lot of slop. Is the tension gage worth the $$ or just go by feel as the old chain drive?

I started to get a nice squeaking noise at around 6-700 miles. Thought it was the brakes but no it was the belt, wayyyy to tight, got worse cause I got the bike in March and when it got warmer it got worse. I bought the tensioner, adjusted and no problems since. Worth the price if you are going to do your own servicing and other work w/the rear wheel.

I haven't checked the tension on my belt, and I've got 17,000 miles on mine. No problems so far (knock on wood!)

I check mine......but in 70,000 miles I haven't needed to make an adjustment.

Respects,
Ed

I use the tension gauge and only adjust the belt tension when I replace the rear tire.

That's unbelievable! Had no idea you could go that long! Had a friend tell me that belts are very efficient, it raised question in my mind, but apparently so.
