I have mids but also have the HD highway pegs. Really nice having the option of tossing my legs up on the highway pegs and when I get tired of that I put em back on the mids. I have had two back surgeries so on long rides I squirm around a lot. So having mids with highway pegs is nice.

I like the mids with highway pegs on my FXD. I like having the 2 options on long rides and I also like that I can shift and brake from both sets of pegs. I actually ride most of the time on the highway pegs shifting with my heel but on a long ride I will use the mids as well.

Im 5' 10'' and have a superglide. I have forewards with stirrips and factory mids. I can put my heal on the mids., and toe on the stirrip, and this is the same position as boards. I can also use the forewards for a streach relief. This combo works great for me.

The argument whether to go with forwards or mids will plague us forever. The right choice is whatever floats your boat. I prefer Mid controls with highway pegs. Purely because of my riding style, and nothing else. I've thought about going with forwards but vetoed that decision last weekend.

I went out wearing my custom safety gear, (shorts, tank top, and flip flops) and decided to do a test (windshield on). I hit the freeway with my feet on the mids and everything was fine. Moved them to the forwards when I hit 70 and the turbulence generated from the airflow change was decidedly noticeable. More comfortable, but turbulent.

Back on to city streets, I kicked my feet forward again. At 45 mph, I got a major wake up call. My right leg was cooking. The heat from the motor was directed to the underside of my leg. Damn that hurt. Something to do with the air flowing over the top of my leg, and creating a vacuum under it. I never really noticed it wearing jeans.

the bottom line for me, Keep the mids for running in the city. Kick the feet to the highway pegs while flying down the highway. Spread your legs slightly to reduce the turbulence, and ride till you cant ride no more.

One things for sure, I aint putting forwards on if I have to ride in city traffic

What about boards with a heel/toe shifter?

Going back to mids is the best move you could make.

I second that. Leg cooks pretty good in slow traffic. So the feet go back to the mid controls.

Default Just The Opposite

I got a Low Rider in July with mids - and want to switch to forwards. I had forwards on my Sporty and loved them. I move my feet to the highway pegs when I can now - and want to move there permanantly. Anyone wanting to swap - let me know!!
