Default Back to Mids

i put about 12,000 miles on my fxd with the mids on...last winter i bought a set of kury forwards and they were really comfortable. didnt get in the way like the mids. anyway, this summer i noticed that i was getting alot of leg and back fatigue when i rode alot. i tried the kury heel rest and recently put a small set of boards on. both were very comfortable on short rides, but still had problems. i rode another bike with the mids on and i realized what the problem was. the forwards are too far forward and i am using muscles to hold my legs up there. also, any bumps are going right to my spine. with my legs directly under me it seems to cushion the bumps and it takes no leg muscles to keep your feet on the pegs. if the forwards were back a few inches and a bit lower, like the baggers, it wouldl make a huge difference. i'm 5'11" and really like feel of the forward pegs but i ride too much to get a leg ache everytime i go very far..anyone else have this problem

I am having the same problem you are and considering putting the mids back on. I have about 13,000 miles on my forwards and anything over 150 miles and I get leg fatigue bad. I think I mjight just put on some mid pegs and see how it goes...then if it helps will change to mid controls and highway pegs.

I have mids, was thinking about forwards so i put on a set of highway pegs to see if i liked the riding position. They didn,t suit me to be honest, and i know where your coming from, was thinking of trying a set of mini boards in the mid position. I have seen them for sale that are adjustable up to a point, but i,m not sure if they work very well and the ground clearance could be worse. Not sure if anyone on the forum has tried them they could be a solution.

I have the Kury forward pegs on and like the ability to switch back and forth while riding. Plus you have two adjustable positions on them. I am also 5' 11 and they work out great for me. Funny thing is I like the mids the best and use the forward pegs to strecth my legs out for 10 or 20 miles when I need to. Plus one big feature of the forward pegs is you can install driving lights on them. I have the 08 SB with the Harley driving light kit on the Kury forward pegs. Works great, love the extra light.

I use the highway pegs to rest my legs on the longer rides, but I go back to the mids for cornering and slower speeds to save the spine from the bumps. Too many years of riding metrics with mids only to feel comfortable with forward controls. I wish it wasn't so sometimes, cause I think forwards look good on just about any bike.

I wasn't and won't be comfortable with mids at all - but I'm 6'4". I guess that's why we have options. Sounds like a set of highway pegs is the thing for you.

I'm 5'10" and was happy with mids until I went for a couple hour ride about a week or so ago...my knees aren't the greatest, and they were aching after about 90 minutes or so. I think I'm gonna kick out to forwards, and just leave the mid pegs where they're at so I can switch between the two.

Mids with highway pegs are the only way to go. As long as you're not too tall.

I know what you mean Scott. I had forwards on my 1200C and liked them generally, but noticed on longer rides that my thighs, butt, and back started to ache. Even though I had an engine guard with highway pegs mounted on it, I didn't have enough variety in my leg position to make that much difference. I was looking at putting forwards on my FXDC, but think that I'll probably stick with my current set up which is another engine guard with highway pegs. I've found with that set up (the peg mounts are the adjustable ones from H-D), I have the best combination of foot positions. Shoot, I can even put my dogs up on the engine guard if I want to. BTW, I'm 6' so I know exactly how you feel. If you want better pictures than the one in my avatar, let me know and I'll email them to you.

i will probably switch over this weekend. its really a tough choice. i sure wish they made something in the position of regular boards. that seems about right. the kury forwards are just out a bit too far for my feet to stay there with no effort. i love my fxd but if anything would drive me to a bagger it will this issue. just cant get real comfortable. sounds like i'm not the only one. i appreciate the comments..
